I've just bought civ5 a few days ago and am playing my first game - the exe-file is Version 1.0.1.167

The game crushes two times out of three when talking to the songhai leader and only on his leader screen. It happens both in DX9 and DX10, it happened over the whole game (well, after astronomics, as he was on another continent). Simply trying to get a deal with him results in a complete computer shutdown. The other leaders work.

Vista HP 64 SP2, Ati4890 with the latest drivers, Q9550 with 4 GB RAM.

Here is a save. Computer shut down after opening the leader screen and clicking on something like trade.

I have almost same specs as you, and this happens to me with all leaders, though only one or two leaders per save. Completely dead computer for no reason. Shouldn't be possible for the game to crash everything!

Looking forward to see if someone can explain this behaviour.

I have a battery backup on my computer and during the game, my computer uses 240 watts. During the leader screens, it doubles and my backup tells me I am overloaded  So the game draws more power during the leader screen and thus may cause instability into the game. What kind of power supply do you guys have?

Thermaltake Toughpower, I put this computer together myself.

Seems that it may have something to do with ATI drivers - as even the newest one has documented problems with Civ5.

Maybe all the flames on his screen heat it up :p

Seriously though, try a leader with another screen that has lots going on? Might be all the different components of his screen are too much to handle or something?

One year later, it still crushes with montezuma and askia. The flames have something to do with it.
