Is their a game/scenario/map editor for Civilization 3 Complete for Mac? I have C3C and have been looking around for the editor for awhile. I've posted at a few other sites, all of which seem to be unfamiliar with Mac. I tried downloading the Civ3Edit dot whatever from macsoftgames, but it never worked, and I suspect it might not be compatible with C3C. Can anybody help me? Where/How do I download/open editing software? I worship any who can help me.

Welcome :wavey:

No, there is no Mac editor for C3C. The options are:

1. Use the vanilla (V1.21) editor, which doesn't know anything about a lot of the features of C3C, and can't set up civ starting positions. If you *really* want to get into this PM me and I may be able to help you find it.

2. If you have an Intel Mac you can use Parallels or Fusion, or you can run Virtual PC on a PowerPC Mac. These options will allow you to run a copy of Windows in a virtual machine on your Mac. Then you can download and run the Windows C3C editor, using your Mac installation's data files. There are details of this option in this sticky thread.

3. Just use a PC.

Thanks for the reply, Alan.

First of all, I don't have a PC, and am not likely to get one, so that's out.
I think I still have Virtual PC, but last time I used it, I got fed up with waiting 5 minutes for the start menu to open.
So, I guess I'll have to check out the Vanilla whatever editor. What exactly are the limitations of it? (I'm PMing you now).

The vanilla editor only supports the capabilities of the version 1.21 version of Civ3. That means none of the extra resources or civs or unique units in the expansion packs are available, and it doesn't do preset start positions for the civs. You get a random start position each time you run the scenario. You can't set up a scenario with any of the later victory conditions enabled, and a lot of the C3C configuration options are not available.

I'm not a modder, so I can't advise on how severe these issues are in practice - maybe someone more knowledgeable will come along and give you their views.

Play one of the .BIC (vanilla C3) scenarios installed within Complete. That's the kind of stuff the editor will let you create, and limit you to. If you would be happy making a scenario with only those features, and the other limitations AlanH mentions, then it's for you. One of the key things I didn't like was missing out on some of the terrain types.

Hi I am very new here (though I've been reading for a few weeks) and saw this. It makes me sad. Although, if truth be told, the only reason I wanted to tinker around with the editor is because I am a big nerd and want to know who the GSLs are for all the Civs. I know, like MSLs, at least some of them have multiple possibilities because I got both Ivan Pavlov and Korolev (why he doesn't get a first name I can't say I know) out of the Russians, but that's the only time I've got multiple ones. I have spent an embarrasingly large amount of time searching around trying to find a list somewhere but to no avail. Does anybody know if this information is in one of the .txt files or something? I even tried looking through those, but, again, no dice. I bought the Civ 3 Complete, if that makes a difference.

Basically I think I just want to get angry if my favorite scientists aren't there and also I'm very curious who they scrounged up for not-particularly-scientific civs like the Mongols or Carthaginians. I suppose I could just play those civs over and over again until I get some SGLs, but, well, I thought I'd try this first.

BTW. The menu on the left of this site's home page gives you access to more Civ reference information than you'll ever need.
