Game freezes after building wonder

I have a problem that i can play civ 4 on my system. but when i complete a wonder like stonehenge i get a sudden slowdown of the game. A dialogue box opens and has a button near the top with stonehenge written on it and nothing else. My computer then does nothing else until i reboot.

Could someone please help me in plain english

Your wonder movies are crashing... The easiest solution in my opinion (which will NOT let you see the movies, but will let you play the rest of the game unhampered) is to go to the directory where the movies are stored (the default setting is

C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\Art\Movies

and rename the "wonders" directery to some random name.

I had the problem, and after doing this, I get the same box you described, but now it also contains an "ok" (or "close", I forget exactly) button, which you can click to close the box, and continue the game.

Or you can just switch the movies off through the Civ4.ini file located in 'My Games' folder that should be in the 'My Documents' folder.

Open the .ini file there and search for the line:
; Set to 1 for no in-game movies
NoMovies = 0

Change the 0 to 1 and no more movies will play. Hopefully it should prevent further crashes.
