Game Freezes

I have two separate workstations: an m3 mac studio, 96gb ram, and an m3 macbook air, 16gb ram. Both machines exhibit the same behavior: the game eventually freezes. the rest of the workstation is just fine but all inputs are no longer registered, any animation on the game is stopped. frozen. If I force quit the game, I can jump back and this is fine. Ive reached out to support in the past and theyve suggested I clear nvram on my m-series macs. Is anyone else having these freezes?

Very happy to report I havent experienced any crashes after 1.2.0. This is anecdotal, but it really seems like the game runs MUCH more smoothly. Mac studio fans dont kick on as high, temps keep quite a bit lower. Resource utilization also seems much lower. So grateful for the improvements!

I came on here to post the same. only since the 1.2 update for me though so thats after your post. but also could be the later stage of the game. ive been playing one long big game and I have a habit of playing a few turns, leaving it open, looking at the internet, going back to it. watching tv and forgetting about it and going back.

and all of a sudden today, every time I leave it for a minute, its as you say, frozen. force quit. restart computer to make sure its not still unstable. open it. play a turn. look at internet, back to it and frozen.

its a a bottom of range M2 MacBook Air, only 8gb ram, but no problems before today.

Now that's weird.
Aggrobot & I had the opposite: freezes before 1.2, not since...

weird. I tend to leave the game open most of the time, and I did have some issues pre 1.2, but generally if the game had been left open for a couple of days then there seemed to be some leak where the spare 80gb of SSD space would disappear, and the game wouldn't crash but go slow, a restart fixing it a..

Since 2.1 I find that leaving the game unattended for more than 5 mins gets a complete game window freeze, but nothing else affected. now maybe its because im getting later in the game, and tbh im playing it like its Civ 1. Massive army fighting with anyone who looks at me, so 55 cities and about 70 army units doddering across the landscape. so maybe it's too much for my 8gb ram M2 MBA.

basically becoming unplayable for me.

It looks like they released a patch here's what I believe to be the relevant note:
Mac

3D assets will now display when using MetalFX graphics options.

So, I dont know about you folks, but previously id noticed that metal never worked, and had to use all kinds of other settings, playing around with what worked best. My assumption is that we are supposed to be using Metal, correct? Ive switched over to metal on my m3 macbook air, and it works. its way too early to know if its running " better," but what this thread suggests to me is that our instability or lack thereof is likely do to diff video settings. if your experience was anything like mine, you ended up on any other setting BUT a relevant metal setting, and perhaps this is exactly what we should be using.

*edit* also, if this is true, im a bit frustrated with the lack of info regarding which settings mac users should be using for the best experience. I get they sense the devs may not know, either.

I switched to one of the metal options. Still crashed. Finally won my long drawn out game.

Started a new game on 1.2. Only placed my capital. Left it open an hour. Went back to it. Frozen.
