WHenever I get into the middle ages and I have like ten cities, I am pretty m uch just waiting for new science stuff, so I build a lot of unitd because that all I can do, if im not at war, should i do this or just generate wealth?
Or should i do something else?

Look around for some of the articles in Acad or even some of the games posted here for advise and see what is offered.

In short, build only units you need. If you are going to fight, make as many as is need to crush them. If not, only enough to keep them from attacking. In the main, build structures that will be cost effective in that town.

If you are at a point that none fits that bill and you have no place to expand, I would suggest you prepare for a war and take some land. Once the land is all taken, wars tend to break out as civs want more space.

Build units up to your support limit only. Unless you're in war, you don't need to go above. Remember, it's a good idea to have 3-4 types of armies present. Defenders, Attackers, Bombard, and Bombard Attackers (like Archers) if you are early enough in the game (or you happen to use Guerilla).

if it were me? i would never stop building units. if i get too "full" and the units start bursting out the seams then they often land inside foreign cities and cause them to become mine, reducing the support problem :)
