Game is too slow

I dont know if its my computer or not.
but the game runs slow, like, it will freeze for a couple of seconds..then continue...then if i click on something, it will freeze, then continue again.
what can I do to speed it up some?
and do I prolly just need more memory on my computer?

Tell us your specs ... for example, I'm getting good performance from my laptop and my main PC -- both are P4 2.8 GHz systems with 740+ MB RAM. Try reducing the graphics options and playing on smaller maps with 1 or 2 opponents to see whether you get improved performance. Are there times when you get smooth performance, say, at the beginning of games? Also, your graphics card will have a significant bearing on the speed and appearance of your games.

If you play multiplayer -- which I don't -- you'll get some feedback on your system speed.

nah, when I play, I disable my virus protection program, and any thing else.
and my specs are whatever came with the computer.
I have windows XP, Emachines.
I've been meaning to upgrade the memory thingy, but I gotta call somebody to do it for me, either that or take it some place, cos I dont know how to do it myself, and I aint about to break my computer.
I dont see why its messin up though, because I downloaded that opengl 1.4 thingy, when I used to play knights of the old republic, and that never used to be slow.
I'll try reducing the graphics.
