I got a game called Romance of the Three Kingdoms in japanese. The name entry boxes can't handle more than four characters for the first and last names. Thus I want to expand the character limit to allow for properly translated names.

However, knowing nothing about programming other than the names of some of the languages, I was wondering where I should start to achieve my goal.

Curious: What version of RotTK did you get?

RotTKX, more specifically the PUK (Power Up Kit). Took me awhile to find out what that ment. And it is the japanese 1.0 version. I've installed a partial english translation patch that has translated the names, but because of the character limit many of the names arn't translated to their correct english translation and I wanted to fix that.
