Game Nostalgia

I kicked it with the intellivision not too long ago. Asteroids was awesome!

I played Beyond Dark Castle! I LOVED that game!

Huh? I've never heard of anything like this. Sounds suspicious to me. Where did you get it?
No it's not pirate. It's called Zelda classic and the NES version was converted 1:1 to the PC with all enemies, they even inserted some new ones and a really cool graphical brush-up.
Here's the LINK ( ;) ):

Have fun and happy downloading. It's really cool :goodjob:

I've never seen anything quite like that before, looks pretty slick, though. I'll have to try it myself. :)

We're talking about way back when. In 1982, I bought my first computer, an Apple IIe. I had bunches of games for that sucker. There was.... and it's sequel... and also.... Darn, I can't remember the names of the games.

One game I had for the Apple that I was fond of was Ogre, a computer version of the Steve Jackson board game.

Ahhh, my old Apple IIe. We still have it at my parent's house, hoping that someday it will be a treasured antique.

The best game for that, hands down, was a sidescrolling airplane game called Wings of Fury. You could rocket hardened AAA batteries, bomb soft ones, torpedo ships, and gun down the soldiers who ran out of the bunkers.

I had a TI-99/4A growing up - it was my only computer, in fact, until the summer of 1991 when I switched to IBM. A while ago I discovered free downloadable emulators for the TI and tried playing a few old games again... Alpiner was what I played most often of the cartridge games, mostly I programmed my own or typed them in from magazines in the 80s, and those I can't get anymore.

As for more modern games, I still play Railroad Tycoon I and Civ1Dos on the PC, and have the original Tetris on my HP48 calculator.

My first computer was a Commodore128. I played the heck out of those old games. My main ones were Red Storm Rising, F19 Stealth and Super Sunday(Football)

While I had a Commodore 64, there weren't many games for it at the time. I remember Spy Hunter, Beachhead and Spy vs Spy (which I couldn't understand for the life of me...) I played F19 Stealth Fighter on my parent's IBM Clone. I remember looking at the game as a whole and wondering how games could get any better.

I liked the portion at the end, where your pilot would have a different ending based upon how his missions were conducted. For example, if you had to eject over enemy territory, you'd get a picture in the Soviet newspaper as a political prisoner, if you ejected over friendly territory, it would show you outside of the hanger (same outcome as if you didn't complete your mission), or a different parties in the bar with your fellow pilots if you had a very successful mission. The different medals and such were a good touch. Part of the lack of "crash" physics allowed me to exploit a weakness in the game where I would land on the ground, fly to different targets (oil refineries, airstrips, tanks, etc.) and use my gatling cannon to destroy targets and up my score. Ahh...the memories.

Games will continue to improve, but that was the first and only flight simulator I played with regularity.

The best games for the Nintendo were Duck Hunt, Zelda and Marble Madness. I remember just zoning out for hours and hours...

Duck hunt was too easy, once you figured out that you had to aim slightly low (IIRC). Zelda was original, and great. However, I've never understood playing marble maddness without a rollerball.

Duck Hunt was a bit easy, but still pretty fun. I'm still disappointed at the lack of "Super Duck Hunt," or "Duck Hunt 64." "Duck Hunt Cubed," anyone?

Waaah! At a lan party we spend 2hours (non stop) playing Bomberman on SNES emulator! It was damn fun. I discovered tons of new cursing words ;)
Beside this, I still play Mac Missile. A very very old game.. You just have to defend buildings against enemy missiles and scuds.
I'm also in a nostalgia period since last week, so I play NBA Jam, Zaxxon, and Arkanoid... Raaaah they were so fun that I still wonder why the 3D games nowadays don't have that much fun.

Is Mac Missile like Missile Command? Where you had to shoot slow incoming beams before they pulverized your cities?

Oooh, I just remembered Scorched Earth!

The oldest game I have that I actually started playing again last night is Colonization. :)

Although I do occassionally visit abandonware sites and have a look around. Some of those games tend to run really fast though heh.

I dunno how old it is, but I still occasionally play "Mario Teaches Typing"; now that I've mastered typing, it's fun to play back.

I used to play DOS games like "Commander Keen" and a "Tomb Raider"-like game, but then that computer crashed and I can no longer play the game anymore.

The blue jackal boss did scare the hell out of me, though. He'd jump around like a madman and if you touched him, Mr. Keen would die.

My favorite levels were the ice levels. Especially those ice machines that would freeze up Keen and then you could get hit by the green monsters.
