Game not loading

After playing the older version I figured I should finally update. Just updated from 1.09 to 1.61, problem is the game won't run now. I have the Direct2Drive version of the game. Got the 1.61 patch there. The game was working good but now it just won't run at all. No errors. When I click on either the shortcut or .exe in the game directory the same thing happens... nothing.

Posted this in the bug forum already but not sure that was right. A little frazed trying to figure out what to do here, just want to play. Sorry.

Have you tried the panacea: uninstall civ4, manually erase all leftover game directories, reinstall, repatch.

I haven't yet. I was waiting to see what D2D had to say but they still haven't responded to my ticket so I'm going to give it a shot now. Maybe I can atleast get the game working even if I am stuck with 1.09 for now. Sucks though. Seems people were having problems going from 1 to 1.52 (skipped patch) and they fixed it by doing each patch. Sadly, I can't even find the 1.52 digital patch to try that (patch 1.09 with 1.52 first then 1.61).

Okay, after reinstalling twice 1.61 is working now although it is acting a little wierd. First thing I noticed was the opening movie was choppy which it wasn't before, not really sure why and not sure how thing can be fixed (if it even can). Don't know about wonder movies yet as I haven't played long enough. Big problem came up a bit into a game though, all of a sudden a lot of things went black. I have no idea why but most things except some terrain and units were black. It was fine one turn and then the next not. What is the deal with this? Anything that can be done? Is it just a fluke?
I haven't been able to look through the fourms much yet but I will try soon. Been very busy lately. Thank you.
