Game speed - I want to enjoy every era!

The problem with longer game speeds is the ability to conquer more during the lulls, since game speed has no effect on movement etc.

How do you suppose they can overcome that?

Game pace should reflect actual history. Ancient, Classical, and Medieval times should last the longest. Spend some time in the Renaissance / age of enlightenment. Industrial, modern, atomic, and information age should go by really fast.

Based on a 350 turn game:
4000BC to 800BC (Ancient era 3,200 years of history = 100 turns)
800BC to 500AD (Classical era 1,300 years of history = 75 turns)
500AD to 1400AD (Medieval era 900 years of history = 75 turns)
1400AD to 1800AD (Renaissance / Enlightenment 400 years = 50 turns)
1800AD to 2020AD (Industrial / modern / atomic whatever 220 years = 50 turns)

Late game is usually stale anyway. After the Industrial revolution the whole game should really just wrap up quickly and come to an end. Modern war with tanks, planes, and nukes should be decisive and quick by lasting only a few turns. There are no 100 year grudge wars in the modern era.

Make cities stronger and harder to conquer.

I agree in that the earlier Eras should last longer (no reason for Eras to be the same size), specially Classical and Medieval, its so dissapointing how fast they go by.
