What exactly is the Game Speed option "Buildup mode"? Is it even slower than "Marathon"?

For those who have tried it (and/or modders), Is WTP played on a Gigantic map well adapted to this speed?

It's essentially marathon speed, but with some colony buildup parameters the same as normal. This will result in players ending up with lots of colonies and time to develop them, like building all the buildings you want/need in each. I suppose you could call it "empire builder" speed.

Hmmm... Would you recommend it for a gigantic map or does the late game risk becoming a nightmare in managing all your colonies? Note that I typically like long and epic-scale games but I guess there are limits to what is manageable...
