Game stops at check xml

My game is refusing to start. After the loading, screen (the one in different languages) it'll get to check xml, then it'll just stop and send me back to desktop. I tried reinstalling drivers and divx codec whatever. Got it today for Christmas and can't play it.....someone plz help.

Had same problem yesterday, its your audio drivers. I forgot to install audio card drivers (fresh xp install) and it stopped at xml on the load and kicked back to the desktop. \

Now I get into the game and there are no faces on the characters, and no landscape in games, still figuring that one out. Hope this helps....

Baer, the unpatched version will crash and burn with ati cards.

Down load the 1.52 patch. From firaxis website.

Patch it. Then try running the program.

This is the boxed version of the game right?

This is not the downloaded version is it?

It is either an outdated driver or you system does not meet spec for the game.

post a dx diag please.

Btw if this is the boxed version of the game, what patch have you updated to?

Just wanted to say thank you to Bajer, Hedge and Neon. I ran into the same problem as Bajer, and was crushed because it was the only toy I got from my wife for Christmas.

LOL... noticed a lot of posts on Christmas... looks like I wasn't the only guy with a broken toy...

hello, I'm new to this community !

I've been addicted to Civ since the first release...
My addiction has helped me to relax during examens, difficult period in my life, to learn the history and make history myself...
guess what... I also received the Game Box edition for Christmas
(bought it in Belgium)

Unfortunately, it doesn't work :-(
Error messages:

"load XML call failed for xml/text/civ4gametextinfos.xml
current xml file is xml/globaldefinesnet.xml"
and
"failed loading xml file xml/text/civ4gametext_civilopedia_concepts.xml (\Fxml.cpp:133"

I have downloaded and installed the patch version 1.52, same problem...
Can anyone help me out ? Please....

Hi again !
Well, this forum has been VERY useful to me...
Actually, my game works now, but before I dig into it and play for hours until I die either from hunger or because of not enough sleep, I wanted to say a big thank you !
Here is what I've done:
- I changed my regional settings to UK (USA) (Civ 4 is the French version)
- I downloaded msxml3.msi and installed it
- I rebooted my computer...
and now it works !!!!
Hopefully this solution will also work for you !!!!!
