I have a ATI 9800 3000AMD 2x512

While playing the game it just dies and goes to desktop or completly restart the computer. While the game is working it runs very well...

Any solutions or advice?

Thanks

I have an ATI 9600 ad the same thing happens too me, mostly a full computer reboot. Game runs perfectly until the crash.

Same here. Mostly the game process just vanishes, and I start it again. But about 20% of the crashes are Blue Screen of Death.

ATi 9000 (Catalyst 5.10), nForce 2 Audio (I suspect it may have something to do with the audio), Win XP SP2

PS: Most (but not all) crashes happen when a saved game is just loaded and shown on screen.

Edit: After a few dozend rounds, the ratio of Blue Screen of Daeth crashes (as opposed to process termination crashes) is now near 100%...

yeah i have the same problem - got a new spanking new computer - game runs beautifully. but it'll randomly crash - reboot the entire system.

Ill join the club on this. ATI 9600 Pro on a Nforce 4 based MB. Although I am not using the on-board sound but a Audigy ZS soundcard.

I am thinking the problem has to do with the ATI AGP cards, or a video prob. in general, according to the why the system crashed dump file when my computer reboots.

It also crashes when a saved game has just loaded. Very similar to Blkbirds experience.

I would also like to point out every other game runs perfectly and the system in general is well maintained.

I have the same problem as well. I attempted to fix the floating teeth problem / black terrain by buying a Gforce 6200 and now my game will randomly crash and reboot roughly 2 minutes after running. No matter in game or in the game menu

Me and another friend have the same problem. I hope a patch fixes this soon :)

i have the same problem. can play for a while then BOOM! either crash to desktop, crash to desktop and destroy my desktop settings, or simply crash and reboot my pc. annoying! thank god for autosave :p

i have radeon 9600xt. (latest drivers) (and a p4 3.2, 1024 meg ram and win xp sp2)

i also have sound issues, when game plays a movie, sound is distorted (game sfx and music play fine). i have an Audigy 2 sound card.

i get the CTD's too. was mainly on autosave. disabled them and it runs ok now for 1-2 hours. no blue screens or reboots, tho sometimes when the game crashes it takes my video drivers with it, and im in 640x480 and 4bit colour. and i need a reboot to fix it

I have a geoforce 4, I attempted to fix the black terrain problem with new drivers, but now it won't let me create a new game, it will load all the way and just crash with no errors or anything.

I have the same problem. Random hard locks and/or full system reboots. Using nVidia 6600 256mb.

I have the exact same problem, I've noticed it happens a lot when the game is loading the diplomacy screen, but it'll do it at other times as well, usually just restarts the computer.

I went a long period of time without it crashing, but it now crashes to desktop at the end of every turn, right after it autosaves usually (i have it set to autosave each turn)
I increased my virtually memory to 4 gigs, and this doesn't seem to stop it from crashing each turn, so i don't think its related to a memory leak, i'm just not sure why it crashes so late in my game. I am playing a game with 17 computer opponents on noble on a Huge map, and its approaching 1800.

I've been having the same issue. The game frequently causes my monitor to go into standby for a few seconds and then the computer reboots. Sometimes XP will report a serious error when I log back in. The system event log always shows a stop code of 0x1000007F.

I've noticed this seems to happen right as or before a Diplomacy screen opens or when I click on a button such as "Religion Advisor." The game seems to work well if I can avoid clicking on buttons or bringing up diplomacy screens but obviously it can't be completely avoided. I've also had a CTD twice, but perhaps this it not related.

(Doom 3, Far Cry, BF2, Thief 3, HL2 all work flawlessly)

Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro (Just updated drivers as of today, no help)
Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card

It's not a memory leak issue, at least not on my system. I have the phisical and virtual memory of my system in sight at all time, and this game hardly consumes any memory, even when it crashes. It does consume 100% CPU (of my Athlon 2000+) almost all the time though.

Have been having the same problem. The computer reboots when the wonder movies start, that is the only place that it has happen for me. I can go back to the autosave file and go back to before the wonder was build but as soon as the wonder movie starts again the computer reboots.

This is my exact same problem and I also have a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro, all the same specs except 2ghz AMD.

I'm having similar problems as others here, my system is doing a complete hardlock sporadically after I load a saved game, enter & exit the world builder, and/or load/reload scenarios. Mouse freezes, sound stops, unable to turn numlock on/off: basically nothing short of pressing reset will fix.

As an interesting side note, I have experienced this hardlocking with one other game only, World of Warcraft which will do the exact same hardlock if I minimize and restore the window too many times (again infrequently).

Basically this system is in tip top shape and is constantly cared for. I usually reformat every 6 months, and I'm about half way through my format cycle. I generally run all my games in 1680x1050 with 2x AA and get pretty acceptable frame rates. The crashing is making this game very difficult to play (I'm not a save every turn player, but I do like to try different setups a lot) and I'm a little nervous as it seems there are a lot of people with very different system configs who experience similar hardlocking.

Civ4 seems like such an incredible game, and definitely in the direction I've been wanting it to take. I just wish I could actually play the damn thing where I don't have to play ironman style to avoid crashing.
