Game without cd?

Still not allowed unless you buy it as a download.

My DVD barely works, i need to clean and re-insert it on average three times due to the scratches before i can commence a game. Soon it will be over. It is very frustrating.

Is there a way to migrate to the Internet game using my DVD to license it somehow?

I have a Steam account. I noticed they are selling Civ4 there as well. Can I migrate somehow? Or do I need to pay for another license then?

Thanks
erik

Welcome to CFC :)
and Steam and D2D won't give you one of their licenses for free just because you have the retail version. So you'll have to buy one of theirs.
IF you are in the US you can of course also pay $7.50 to Take2 for them to exchange your disc (I would probably rather go for the downloaded versions, but still the option is there).

Thanks :) .

I've been buying Civs ever since the first version rolled out. I purchased the Civ4 DVD the moment it hit the shelves in Singapore.

It is outrageous that I would have to pay twice for a product (license) that I already bought -- like buying a drink and not being allowed to store it in a different bottle.

I understand the need for protection against piracy, but such measures should come with adequate alternatives for the sincere user. I would happily send my disk, box, manual and chart back to Take2 for a Steam license for example (and even suffer the period of not being able to play).

No options leave me no choice... I shall be tempted to seek out the alternative, whose name shall not be mentioned.

If you purchased it legally, than do what you feel is right. Don't pay twice for something you own only once. I've purchased every Civilization title since its inception. I refuse to be told how to use software I own and also I find it offensive. Things were not always the way that they are now.

Google it, don't use the CD.

Excuse me dickhead, I own my personal license. And yes, I see the fineprint written in english meant to be deciphered by a team of egyptologists. Still, I paid my dues, I am entitled to use as I please. Anyways, I have a life outside of reading eulas and meeting the demands of a corrupt industry.

Wow, I haven't been called in about 30 years. Thanks for the memories.
I'm glad too people can count on you to keep your word. The fact is you agreed to use it one way, and you're indignant now that it's expected. Don't tell people to cheat and break rules without expecting a whistle to blow or a flag to fly.

Don't attempt to sit on your righteous high horse and put blame on me. I didn't agree to use it one way regardless of what you may say. You're some forum troll who enjoys wording things in order to make people around you seem lower than yourself.

I am a loyal fan and patron of this series and I am angry at anyone like yourself who apparently wasn't around when the industry was far different. I remember snail mailing a letter to Electronic Arts about my bard's tale game not functioning correctly around 1988. I received a personal letter back with signature and instructions on how to get it running properly. This kind of service was expected back then but nowadays is hard to find. I remember when the documentation and license would recommend people to make hard backups and to not use the original discs. That is because obviously using the original disc might eventually cause it to be damaged rendering the game useless without a replacement. Maybe a stupid jerk like yourself can't imagine an idea like that. I bet you smile with glee about the EULA. It gives you a chance to speak on the same level you're speaking now. 20 years ago you'd be defending me.

**WAVES FLAG BLOWS HORNS WHISTLES BANGS BELLS**
There is no reason to wave a flag, blow whistles or lower my head in shame. I purchased a game, I own my license, I am free to do whatever I want with the CD, break it, use it, eat it, throw it away. But, thanks for your wisdom, you're bringing about life changes already. The guilt is setting in. I am remorseful for enjoying myself. I will agree never to violate so much as ANYTHING on a EULA. I will use a magnifying glass now on and circle and highlight the portions that deserve more careful attention. For any matter that needs more work, I'll bring my handy portable dictionary and thesaurus along. Also, come to think of it, I'll hire a lawyer to ensure that any agreement or "OK" I click on is explicitly followed verbatim from here to eternity! Thanks again for your support in this matter, fellow friend.

As the Americans (might) Say EULA - SCHMEULA. The problem with this is that you don't get to read the 'agreement' until after you've bought the game. In the court of moral responsibility (which since the EULA police are underfunded and out to lunch, is the only one that matters) the point is have you paid to play the game?

If you have bought a pucka copy and Firaxis et all have got their dues, what does it hurt them for you to install from your genuine CD, then put said CD safely away from harm and run from a downloaded 'crack' that saves wear and tear on your disk?

I am NOT condoning piracy, which is of course just theft, but no harm no foul. I've bought my right to play the game, how can it matter where the disk is when I am playing? Sorry auldian, but IMHO ecc has a fair point.

Well, it's not what you guys agree to. The licenses assumes you'll keep your word and play it from the authentic media by keeping the disc in the tray.
Worth name calling and getting all indignant? Apparently some of you think so. Thankfully, your opinions are of no more conseqence to me than mine to you; I don't give a rat's a$$.
And high horse? Get over yourself ecc. This is a voluntary tech support forum. People deserve accurate information, not the spew you throw out. You've been here long enough to know better.

Megagames.com.
I don't know why anyone would whine about a nocd crack. It's the most easily circumvented copy protection around; even the most careless crackers include a nocd crack in any release.
