My friend is in the market for a new gaming laptop and he's looking in the 500-600 range.Any suggestions?

I bought an Aspire V3 and also a Lenovo g505s last year to mainly play Civ. They were the best gaming laptops under $500/$600 dollars. Both of them lasted only a few months because they kept overheating. It seems to be a risk.

I would suggest putting $600 into building his own desktop. I did this for the first time and its the best decision I made. It's not too difficult (I knew nothing of computers before the project) and the performance is so much better than a laptops.

There are some pretty decent cooling pads one can get fairly cheap to prevent overheating. It's a very common issue for laptops since they obviously can't fit enough cooling systems on their own.
