Hi everyone.

I'd be interested if you manage to find a way to do it. I've read on reddit a few people having success running it in VirtualBox then through Hamachi, but ideally there'd be a simpler way with modern tools. How are you running the 16 bit EXE, with WineVDM? It might not support networking at all that way. I doubt that's ever been tested.

EDIT - there are a bunch of network INI files in the install folder that say the default port is 1492. You could also try doing it via TCP/IP

Yes I run it with WineVDM,but that's because of Win7x86 in VMWare doesn't support Hamachi

Also don't forget to patch it, you never know! Networking is not a world I know a lot about, words like port forwarding and tunnelling mean nothing to me :)

I'm curious actually from watching Suede's Civ 1 stream how CivNet handles things like player vs player diplo. Diplo with the AI is obviously very restricted by design but they must have expanded it considerably as it would be awful if it worked the same way. Also does the diplomat's super powers work on a human player. Can you just bribe away all their cities and get all their techs.

I managed to get this working by using 2 instances of PCEM (running Windows 95) on the same PC + NPCAP for windows
I followed this tutorial to setup PCEM (I had already done the hard work of setting up Win95 on it a while back)
along with this important extra step to force different mac addresses for each instance
I also had to change the IP address of one of them in Windows 95 in order to make sure they didn't clash

Here's a screenshot of human vs human diplomacy
