my old mouse is out of work. so terrible! i even cannot play games at will. so i am in badly need of a new and decent mouse. i do not wanna it boken anymore! some guys suggest me to go with Logitech G9 Laser Gaming Mouse (40bucks). though money is not a issue, i do wanna your suggestions. is it really good enough? thanks in advance

You wont find it for 40$. Be prepared to pay upwards of 100$ for the G9.

My suggestion, if wired mice is no issue, is the MX518.

My first MX518 died after 2 years and even though i was somewhat annoyed by the short lifespan (my previous mouse, also from logitech, lasted 6 years if not longer) i bought a new MX518.

Should this one die an sudden and early death like the last one i will probably look for something else, i really like the Microsoft Sidewinder X8 play and charge feature, basically eliminating the only reason i don't buy a wireless mouse for gaming.

I also have the Microsoft Explorer mouse, which is basically the non-gaming version of the Sidewinder X8, i use it to control my HTPC (since doing it with the Logitech Harmony One really sucks) and the only drawback* of that mouse is the battery life, probably due to the silly feature that each time the mouse wakes up from sleep if illuminates itself with a bright blue light (not the BlueTrack light) and wastes loads of energy.

Edit: * i guess its large shape would also be pretty bad for gaming, but its quite useful and effective for use on irregular surfaces such as my couch or my leg.

You should have just emailed Logitech when the MX518 died. They replaced one of my mice that was 5 months past the 3-year warranty, in fact, they upgraded it since they did not make the mouse that broke on me.

As far as I'm aware, the Logitech MX518 is the best value gaming mouse currently available. I used to use a G5/7 and haven't noticed any difference since "downgrading".

A decent mousepad can make a big difference though.

Yep I have a MX518 too, and I love it.

I also have a Razer eXactMat that has a smooth metal side and a rougher metal side and a gel wrist rest/pad (which is awesome). I got it as a gift, but I think they are around $30.

If you are willing to trade the Mx518's 5 extra buttons for twice the DPI you can get the Razer Abyssus.

Personally i have much more use for the additional buttons than extra DPI, especially since in real world application the DPI amount becomes exponentially more meaningless after about 800DPI (to the point that only a some "high sensitivity gamers" benefit from 2500DPI+ Mice)

Buttons > DPI

I'll rubber stamp the MX518. I'm still using mine after 12 months+. If you want to soup it up, add some teflon stickers to the underside.

Teflon is evil. I'm missing 2 of 5 pads on my mouse (the two at the back of it) and it works fine, i do have to regularly clean the gunk that accumulates on it but that is from naturally occurring dust, oils from my skin, skin cells and food.

As for DPI, I prefer a lower (but not too low) dpi in games, it maeks it much much easier to aim. I have no idea how much DPI is what though.

Teflon is great on your mouse, but bad in your food and blood.
