Gaming Suggestions - WWII Game That Would Allow Recreation of Battle of Crete?

I'm looking for a PC game that would allow me to replay the Battle for Crete (1941) as either the Germans or the Commonwealth forces at a tactical level. Has anyone come accross a game that has this as a scenario or that allows this to be added as a patch?

I've was recommended Panzer General II but this turned out to be no good (and the game play was rubbish).

So, anyone got any ideas?

You dont like panzer general II. Im surprised, it still one of my favorite games. What didnt you like about the Crete scenario? Map size or maybe the naval portion?

I could suggest Steel Panthers, World at War, but I donèt know if that has Crete.

Try Steel Panthers, its a very detailed tactical level game, and free too. Their are literally hundreds of scenarios with the game, so I expect you'll find a Crete scenario in there somewhere.

There is a Malta scenario, and it's bloody horrible. Otherwise, PGII is an excellent game, IMHO. I'd say like the others, Rodge, give Steel Panthers a shot.

Sorry, my mistake. In Panzer General I there is a Crete scenario, It comes after the invasion of Greece in the '38 German campaign.

You're right about the gameplay in PZI. Its a great game, but pretty clunky by today's standard. PZII made marked improvements.

If you would open your range a little more there was a boardgame called Descent on Crete, by SPI, that recreated the fight for Maleme airfield at company level. It was the most detailed game ever on that subject. As the Germans you watch in agony as your Fallschirm get massacred, but then some survive and begin the process of taking the airfield for the Mountain troop reinforcements. A very good game, but not for the faint of heart. As the opening rounds as the Germans you may get depressed, as you get slaughtered. Although if you hang in there it is a very good recreation of that battle. Nothing done for the computers has come close to it in detail.

i have a game by Talonsoft called West Front. It has a fun campaign about the liberation of Crete by American forces. However, I don't think that there is an invasion of Crete campaign or scenario, unless someone created it and posted it on the internet.

Yes, it can't be beat for tactical WW2 wargaming and does contain Crete scenarios. I can't think of anything that covers the entire battle on the PC, Panther Games who have done two games on Arnhem might get round to it one day.
