I've been trying to decide which ones better and trying to decide on getting an apple laptop or a laptop that runs on windows.

Unless you are very big on playing the latest Windows games, go with the apple.
(Better yet, buy the Windows-based laptop, and install Linux on it.

I'd go with the Windows, because there are much more products available than for Mac.

The music department at my college used to have equal numbers of PCs and Macs in their cluster, all with Finale, and almost everyone used the PCs for everything. Then the dept head decided all the computers should be Macs, and now the cluster isn't used very much
