Sorry to resurrect and old thread, but I hate to start a new one when an old one already exists.
This is something that still bugs me about G&K; I was disappointed that G&K removed the ability to hide your units while garrisoned, for purely aesthetic reasons. (I understand what they were fixing gameplay-wise, but they could have left the ability to hide the units, there was no reason to remove that!) It is ugly to have these giant units standing atop your cities, yet what surprised me even more is that very few people seem to think this is an issue; I figured it would be fixed in a patch or two because people surely would be annoyed by it. Then again, judging from the screen-shots people post it seems like most people play with the hex-grid turned on, so maybe most Civ players just don't care about aesthetics?
Either way, I don't know how onerous a task it would be to create a mod restoring this feature (it WAS in the game at one point, so in theory it shouldn't be too hard to put back in, right?) but I bet a lot of aesthetically-sensitive players would really appreciate it...
