Since the patch came garrison units no longer disappear. In G&K garrison units are always visible too.
I wan't to know if this a common bug of it's only mine...I know it's only cosmetic but I rather prefer garrison units invisible than huge soldiers over mi cities.

There is no garrison in the expansion...units on cities are fortified like any other unit.

No they're not invisible. They act as normal units on any tile, even if they are cities.

I don't think this is a bug.

They removed the garrision option (the effect is still there) from everything I have been reading. Was nice for asthetics that I could see my town than just a huge giant putting his shadow over my lowly citizens. :-)

The second the unit enters the city it is considered garrisoned. I know this cause I went honor and have that happiness benefit for units in cities. Its a pretty nice buff to production during peacetime especially with tradition. So a garrisoned unit is free, and gives me happiness and culture since they buffed it.

Sorry to resurrect and old thread, but I hate to start a new one when an old one already exists.

This is something that still bugs me about G&K; I was disappointed that G&K removed the ability to hide your units while garrisoned, for purely aesthetic reasons. (I understand what they were fixing gameplay-wise, but they could have left the ability to hide the units, there was no reason to remove that!) It is ugly to have these giant units standing atop your cities, yet what surprised me even more is that very few people seem to think this is an issue; I figured it would be fixed in a patch or two because people surely would be annoyed by it. Then again, judging from the screen-shots people post it seems like most people play with the hex-grid turned on, so maybe most Civ players just don't care about aesthetics?

Either way, I don't know how onerous a task it would be to create a mod restoring this feature (it WAS in the game at one point, so in theory it shouldn't be too hard to put back in, right?) but I bet a lot of aesthetically-sensitive players would really appreciate it...

Giving this a bump. I just came back to Civ V after a long absence, and am seriously disappointed that "garrisoned" units are just there on top of the cities. What a terrible, ugly aesthetic. *cough cough*tradingposts*cough*

I would vastly prefer them to be hidden so I can see the cities I'm working to develop sprawl across the tile, not some random unit standing on top of it. The icon is still there...

Have you been paying attention to the updates lately? There is no Garrison button (in both expansions) nor does the unit disappear when "Alerted" or "Fortify" in a City.

Have anyone figured how to make garrisoned units invisible (hidden in a city)? In Vanilla Civ5 garrisoned units were hidden (not visible) but in G&K and BNW these are now visible and it looks just ugly. Does anyone know how to fix it? Maybe something can be changed in xml files to get it back to invisible? This is definately a bug because units SOMETIMES are invisible while garrisoned, usually after loading a game, but after a turn or two they are visible again...

Or maybe someone know how to make Garrison command and Garrison function get back in BNW from vanilla? There must be some way in xml files but I didn't find it so far...
