Gator's HOF Games

... what I'm unsure of is if I should continue to research and go the communism route or stay with the TOA and go Feudalism?
Personally I've always gone for Communism for 100K. One thing from your map, you've got a small number of large cities with wide spacing. To get a really good 100K date you need as many cities/towns as possible. The amount of culture you can produce tends to depend more on the number of cities than building every last building in a small number of cities. To give you an idea, I had 95 towns on my Tiny Monarch 100K, and 240 towns on my Standard Chieftain 100K. Then again, it looks like you've got the game well under control. I've been playing a quick ("quick" in RL terms, not date) Deity Space race, and it's getting kind of interesting towards the end. I'll have to be careful to make sure I win it!

I plan on a lot more cities. I'm up to 60 cities so far. The loose pattern is compliments of the AI. I founded 15 cities by 1050BC in my core and then went on the war path. I captured 40 cities from the AIs and I have recently settled 5 more cities with settlers from the captured cities. I plan on a lot more cities before the game finishes. My core will only need to produce knights for a few more turns and then I can start the settler and culture rush.

I was thinking about using the TOA to generate some culture while I build a bunch of settlers and libraries; then pursue Communism and Replaceable Parts.

On your space attempt, I hope you have better luck with the late resources than I did. It could be a challenge fighting for resources on deity. Good Luck, I look forward to a nice writeup.

BTW, I found out something I did not know before. In this game I captured the Great Library before eliminating Germany and China. Only America knows Education. I was worried that when I eliminated both Germany and China that the Library would give me Education since it was known by the only other civ in the game. But it did not. So it truly takes 2 civs to know the tech even when it's down to you and one other civ.

Looking good Gator!

Just thinking of going Communism and all that MM gives me the shivers!! :p ;)

But you know that is where you're headed...

Good luck. I was going to head for Gator01 but I am still struggling with computer problems. Got to get it worked out soon though as SGOTM 08 is upcoming.

Why were you specifically trying to avoid Edu? I don't do the 100K thing so I was just wondering.

Edit Hi! Leif LTNS.

Education makes TOA obsolete and you lose the free temples (+2cpt). Some people have been going the Feudalism route for poprushing while keeping the free temples. My game will probably hinge on how quickly I can get the city count up once I have America relagated to the island.

My experience in 100K games is limited to SGOTM06 and Gator01 so I am no expert, but will offer an opinion anyway. :D It seems to me that the Feudalism route would not be a bad one because:

1. You can begin pop rushing sooner, in the early MA instaed of waiting for communism in the early IA, without having the despotism penalty. :)

2. More cities producing Temples (which you get automatically with ToA), Libraries and Cathedrals are better than less cities trying to build Universities. Universities require too many resources to successfully get them online quickly. Those resources can be used to produce settlers and get ICS'ed soonest.

3. You could shut down research to build a stash of gold to support yourself later for the inevitable maintenance cost problem of all your cultural buildings.

Good luck Gator, it will be interesting to see which course you select. :mischief:

Hey MisTfit, how have you been. Having fun with those CDZ guys? See you around..... (No thread jacking allowed)

That space attempt didn't work out too well. I initially had a little luck with the resources, but a mixture of my Uranium town flipping and an AI sneak attack when I barely had any military made thinks pretty difficult. I was fighting my way back, but Russia managed to launch in 1340AD. I guess Deity as my first game back was asking a bit much, especially letting the AI live for tech trading purposes. Deity is so much easier if you can knock the AIs down to size early on.

Still, I just did a writeup of my Warlord 20K game. Not quite up to your standards, but not bad from memory...

I finally got around to playing a little more in my 100K attempt. It's now 720AD and I have eliminated Germany and China. I have relegated America to just 2 cities, 1 on the mainland and 1 on the island. I'm up to 79 cities and have 12 settlers ready. I accidentally triggered a domination win in 710AD when my cities expanded after capturing TOA. I gained around 200 tiles on expansion, so I reloaded and abandoned some cities, including a few poorly placed newly founded cities. I probably wasted half a dozen settlers. It's now time to start the culture push, but currently I'm in republic so I'll need to change to feudalism.

Unfortunately it may take awhile for me to get back to this game.

Here's a look.

Keep 'er up Gator!

Looking good!

If you need a change of pace we have a little Quick Domination challenge going on here. 2 hour or so games then you wont have to worry about that ToA problem :D

BTW ~ Good luck on the SGOTM
