[GEM] Kaitzilla vs. The World

Turnset 77 (T310 to T311)

T310 Continued - Since Bantu (Khmer's northeast city) is likely to be captured by Yue next turn, I need my Spy to perform a mission.

Revolt the city to 0% defenses?
I'm not sure it would last long enough for Yue to take advantage, but I want the AI killing each other as much as possible.
I don't think I need to spend 253:espionage: to help an AI.
I'll rob the treasury a bit. (If the city has 10 pop and the empire has 100 pop, I'd steal 10% of the treasury in a "Steal Treasury" mission)
...
Stole 95:gold: in Bantu with Spy.
Spy captured and killed.
Spoiler :

Hinduism spread in Ergili + Susa with Missionary.
Courthouse completed in Samarkand.
Production overflow in Chinook was put into National Epic for fail gold.

T311 - Barbarians: No deaths.

The Yue Empire converted to Hinduism.
Hah!
Now he will stay Pleased with me no matter what I do.

Yue asked me to join the war against the Khmer Empire.
6 of my best units are heading north to conquer barb cities and the rest are protecting the eastern border.
I've got a lot of cities with 3 or 4 whip anger and I hate doing 1 pop whips to produce purely military units.
Mmm, sorry Yue, I paid you and Japan well to fight Khmer.
Maybe later.
Told Yue NO.
Got -2 diplo hit with Yue, but he is still Pleased with me. (Goujian is one of the few AI to give -2 for refusing to help during war)
Spoiler :

Rome completed Colossus. (+1:gold: per turn for water tiles)
He still won't trade Metal Casting.
Rome isn't Friendly with me and says "We Fear You Have Become Too Advanced" because I've received too many techs in trades with various AI.
Plus, I'm in the top half of the scoreboard. (Dead civs count too)

Israel completed the Temple of Solomon (+1:gold: per turn for every Hindu city on Earth)
SWEET
**Edit**
NobleZarkon has pointed out that this is in fact the Jewish shrine. :goodjob:
Freaking David >_<
Hindu Shrine would have paid triple!
Spoiler :

Susa + Pataliputra popped borders.

Khmer's northeast city Bantu was captured by the Yue Empire.
Khmer Stack of Doom is now approaching Yue's Stack of Doom that I assume is still mostly in Bantu.
Spoiler :

Japan has 9 highly promoted units in Korea next to Khmer's lonely city of Tonggou.
Khmer's 4 defenders will need some luck to hold the city!
Spoiler :

My Galley discovered a barb Galley and a Khmer island city named Viyamapura (1 pop).
Will try to avoid the barb Galley and let Khmer kill it somehow.
Spoiler :

Khmer's newly conquered city Cherokee just came out of revolt and its borders are touching China in a few places.
Khmer is now a Land Target for China. :)
Time to bribe China to Cease Fire with Ragnar (again) and see if I can't bribe China into a war against Khmer now that the situation has changed.
..
Traded Literature to China for peace with Scandinavia.
China has made peace with Ragnar.
...
Boo!
China still says he'd have "nothing to gain" when I ask for war against Khmer.
So frustrating.
Spoiler :
Khmer land tiles are touching 8 Chinese land tiles, so Khmer is a Land Target for China now.

Curses! Nothing to gain still.

The Zulu also, amazingly, have Compass somehow.
Time for my tech embargo to end it seems!
...
Traded Priesthood + Monotheism to Zulu to switch to Hinduism.
The Zulu Empire converted to Hinduism.
Now I'm at +9 relations (Pleased) and need to get to about +11 to get Friendly and be able to trade for Compass.
Shared religion for 20 turns should do it.
I'd like to have bribed Shaka into a shared war vs. Germany for extra +diplo, but he is already plotting war.
Spoiler :

Courthouse completed in Bactra + Gems City.
Settler whipped (4-pop) in Khotan. (Will settle on the other side of the mountains 4N of Biskek)
National Epic whipped (3-pop) in Biskek. (Should generate a lot of fail gold)
Hindu Missionary whipped in Susa.

Turnset 78 (T312 to T313)

T312 - Barbarians: No deaths.

Isabella
teched Theology and founded a religion.
I chose Christianity.
Spoiler :

National Epic completed in Biskek (+100% :gp:)
Gained 945:gold: from partially completed National Epic in various cities.
Spoiler :

Great Prophet born in a faraway land. (western hemisphere? Australia?)

Khmer's Korean city Tonggou was captured by Japan. :)
Spoiler :

Genghis Khan DOW'd Ethiopia.
Shaka DOW'd Ethiopia.

Shaka asked me if I wanted to join his war against Ethiopia.
Ugh, I certainly don't want war with Friendly Zara Yaqob.
Even worse, the -1 diplo hit for refusing means it will take even longer to get Zulu to Friendly to trade Compass.
Sigh.
Told Shaka NO and took the -1 diplo.

I checked to see how much Zulu wanted to make peace with Ethiopia so I could bribe him to DOW Germany and share a war with me. (Zulu hasn't met Ragnar yet)
Shaka wants not 1, but 2 big techs to make peace. (Code of Laws alone is not enough)
Faster Compass just isn't worth letting Zulu catch up in tech.
Africa needs to be a Carthage + Ethiopia continent someday because I fear Deity Shaka.

The Khmer and Yue army didn't clash this turn but seemed to gather reinforcements.
Spoiler :

Friendly Israel has Calendar now, but won't trade because he is building Mausoleum of Maussollos. :twitch:
Friendly Spain has Theology now, but won't trade because she is building Apostolic Palace or Hagia Sophia. :twitch:
Spoiler :

The barb galley near Khotan shot straight north and is now threatening to pillage my Fish. grr
Will make a 2nd Galley in Khotan.
Spoiler :

Walls completed in Bactra. (finally!)
Hindu Missionary whipped in Ecbatana.

Currency will be done in 1 turn.
I'm starting to regret turning the 2 Pataliputra chops into fail gold instead of 5 Catapults.
Khmer is taking a bigger beating than I thought, and I got enough gold from Heroic Epic fail gold to get Currency without needing the National Epic fail gold.

T313 - Barbarians: 1 Galley died.

Surprisingly, the barb Galley sailed onto my Khotan Fish, but didn't pillage it.
My first Galley lost attacking it, but my 2nd Galley won easily.
Spoiler :

Currency discovered!
Unlike in BTS, I don't get +1 Trade Routes in all cities with Currency.
Instead, the 450:hammers: Market gives +1 Trade Route for any city that builds it.
Spoiler :

Gained 896:gold: from partially completed National Epic in various cities.

Started teching Horseback Riding next for War Elephants.

Ethiopia asked me to join their war against Shaka.
Nope!
Got -1 diplo with Ethiopia.

Willem asked for Literature.
Ok, the +1 diplo is worth the small tech.
I accepted.

Yue asked for Construction.
A +1 diplo bonus, Catapults, War Elephants (Yue has HBR), and faster road movement over rivers?
Sure thing buddy. ^_^
Kill Khmer KIllllLLLL
I accepted.

Is this a function of GEM or "Choose Religions" because normally the Temple of Solomon is the Jewish Shrine?

!!
My brain damage is showing again.:o:hammer2:

Yes, the Temple of Solomon is the Jewish Shrine.
I just checked and David founded it even though the Hindu Shrine would have had almost 3 times as many cities based off influence %. :wallbash:
Spoiler :

The Hindu Shrine is called the Kashi Vishwanath.

Thanks for pointing that out NobleZarkon! :goodjob:
I had (now disastrous) plans in the back of my head to steal Elephantine that I can put away now.

Also, added a link to this thread in my signature.
Now I advertise every time I post somewhere on the forum. :D

Yes, the Temple of Solomon is the Jewish Shrine.

Glad to be of assistance :D I'm guessing there's a cultural type influnce in GEM so that King David prefers Judaism regardless of the relative size of his religions??

Glad to be of assistance :D I'm guessing there's a cultural type influnce in GEM so that King David prefers Judaism regardless of the relative size of his religions??

Heh, I'm not really sure.
In the Civlopedia (GEM), it says Israel's favorite religion is Judaism at the top, but it has Justinian's portrait and the wrong civ traits.
The info screen proves it.
Spoiler :

Even then, I'm not sure if favorite religion influences which religious capital gets the shrine. :dunno:
Maybe the Jewish Holy city was closer to the Great Prophet than the Hindu Holy city. :dunno:
Spoiler :

Turnset 79 (T313)

T313 Continued - Now, for what everyone has been waiting for, trading techs for :gold:!

Here is the current trading situation:
Spoiler :

First I'll deal with the delicate situation with Shaka and Ethiopia.
They are Worst Enemies to each other, so trading with either is asking for -diplo "traded with worst enemy" penalties.
If I give Shaka 2 big techs for peace with Ethiopia, maybe I can snag Shaka's 400:gold: too.
..
Oops!
Misclick.
I gave Shaka Code of Laws + Monarchy for peace with Ethiopia by accident.
At least buying a Cease Fire doesn't count towards "Worst Enemy" penalties.
Shaka made peace with Ethiopia.

Might as well grab the gold now.
Traded Mathematics to Shaka for war with Germany and 400:gold:
Shaka DOW'd Germany. (The shared war bonus will definitely speed up getting Shaka to Friendly so I can trade for Compass)
Gah, -1 diplo with Ethiopia for trading with "Worst Enemy".
I forgot that it takes 1 turn for Worst Enemy status to go away.
A good reminder to leave Ethiopia's gold alone until next turn.

Traded Priesthood to Arabia for 260:gold:
Traded Literature to Israel for 660:gold: + Embargo vs. Khmer.
Traded Monotheism to Tokugawa for 260:gold:
Traded Code of Laws to Hammurabi for 680:gold:
Traded Code of Laws to Louis for 550:gold:

The Ethiopa 550 gold will be left alone until next turn for Worst Enemy (Shaka) to wear off.
The Roman 1090 gold is more interesting.
I can't trade for Metal Casting until I get to Friendly, but I can't get to Friendly until my Fair Trade diplo increases from +1.
I hate trading a monopoly tech like Currency for just gold, but a Friendly Rome might be worth it in the long run.
Hmm...

Canceled Pig + Rice to Hammurabi.
Traded Rice to Hammurabi for 5:gold: per turn.
Canceled Cow + Sheep + Rice to Israel.
Traded Rice to Israel for 5:gold: per turn.
Traded Pig to Hammurabi for 4:gold: per turn.
Canceled Silver to Khmer.
Traded Silver to Ethiopia for 7:gold: per turn.
Canceled Rice + Ivory to France.
Traded Rice to France for 2:gold: per turn.

Resource trades for gold per turn are nice. :)
I've usually avoided aggressive trading practices since they feel a bit of an exploit to me, so I won't use them in this game.
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy/subsidies.php

The limit for :gold: per turn the AI will offer is based off empire population. (Thanks Ghpstage!)
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=12452678&postcount=161
Once an empire reaches 10 pop they will start offering up to 1:gold: per turn.
Once they reach 20 population, up to 2 :gold: per turn, etc., etc.
The exceptions are Lincoln, Suryavarmen, and Pacal who will offer 50% more gold per turn.

Now for the best trade of all. :D
I'm not sure what changed in Qin's electronic brain, but he is now willing to DOW Khmer for the right price.
Traded Construction to China for war against Khmer.
China DOW'd Khmer.
Spoiler :

China, Yue, and Japan are now allies in their quest to destroy Khmer on my behalf! :mwaha:
All of east Asia burns in war.
It will take a bit of time for Catapults to start appearing from China and Yue, but they will make a difference as the fighting gets worse.

Khmer merged all his units into a giant 25 unit Stack of Doom 1W of Bantu. (15 are CHARIOTS)
Yue has 2 Archers, 4 Spears, 3 Horse Archers, and a Sword+Axe+Chariot defending the hilltop city.
If Khmer is dumb enough to attack 4 hilltop Spears with Chariots first...
Spoiler :

Hinduism spread in Pasargadae with Missionary.
Hindu Missionary whipped in Dariush Kabir.
Estruscan Settler whipped (4-pop) to go settle 3S1E of Tarsus. (Overflow will go into 2 Hindu Missionaries)
Walls completed in Biskek. :)
Spoiler :

Turnset 80 (T314)

T314 - Barbarians: 1 Archer died.

Great General born in the Yue Empire.

Dariush Kabir popped borders.

Egypt DOW'd Ragnar.

WHOA Khmer just got slaughtered!
17 units died and he only managed to kill 3 or 4 Yue units in Bantu.
Yue's surviving 12 units in Bantu are all very damaged.
My Power Rating with Khmer surged from 0.803 to 0.921 thanks to Suryavarmen's losses.
Spoiler :

Khmer didn't learn any lessons as his empire is currently constructing 6 more Chariots and 2 more Axes.
Spoiler :

I've start attacking the barb city Thracian.
My City Raider III Sword took damage all the way down to 0.2hp, but emerged victorious.
Will have to slow play things since my Sword has only 75% odds of winning and my Axe has less than 50%.
Spoiler :

Traded Rice to Arabia for 2:gold: per turn.
Traded Cow to Japan for 2:gold: per turn.
Traded Literature to Ethiopia for 560:gold:
Traded Currency to Rome for 1180:gold: + Emargo vs. Khmer. (I couldn't help myself! so much gold...)
Gained +3 diplo and Rome is now Friendly with me. :)
Spoiler :

African scout spotted the Ethiopian capital.
Axe scouted the Yue capital and major cities.
Asian scout is finding nothing but endless forests in Siberia.
Spoiler :

Spotted an anomaly with my 1st Catapult produced in Pataliputra.
7xp?!
..
WhoA!
The Settled Great General gives +4xp per military unit, not 2!
One more Great General and I can produce endless streams of City Raider III units...
Also, the spy specialist gives +2:science: instead of the usual +1.
Spoiler :

Hinduism spread to Chinook + Estruscans with Missionaries.
Hindu Missionary whipped in Susa.
Worker produced in Chinook.
Courthouse whipped in Ergili.

Turnset 81 (T315 to T316)

T315 - Barbarians: 1 Archer and 1 Warrior died.

Great General born in a faraway land.

China asked me to DOW Khmer.
The same reasons I told Yue no still apply right now.
My military is out of position attacking barbs, and I'm still creating buildings and digesting Persia.
Told China NO.
Spoiler :

Freaking barbs.
Julius stole my barb city east of Gems City.
Also, the 2 Archers near Thracian decided to reinforce the city instead of suiciding my units.
That's failure for the western barb city mission and a huge setback for my slow Thracian plan.
(Slow capture plan means my strongest unit easily kills top defender, then helps capture the city next turn while injured)
Ugnn, will have my frontier Axe help capture Thracian, and I'll use my western group go explore Siberia above Gems City since they don't have a job anymore.
Spoiler :

Khmer has 7 Workers on his border that are extremely tempting me to DOW.
Spoiler :

Once again, I'm out of position for war with Khmer my forces scattered around up north with barb cities, east doing scouting work, and garrisoning Biskek + Pataliputra to manage anger issues.
Khmer's Sword 2N2E of Biskek could also cause issues with my Workers.
Sigh, will wait longer to DOW Khmer.
China and Japan need to arrive in force before I'll feel safe from Khmer retaliation.
I also need to start keeping tabs on Khmer units inside my borders again so they can't steal my undefended cities the 1st turn of war.
Khmer has also stopped building useless Chariots and started building more Swords and Axes.
Spoiler :

Traded Priesthood to Khmer for 250:gold:
Traded Hunting to England for 150:gold:
Canceled Wheat + Sheep + Wine + Ivory to Japan.
Traded Wheat to Japan for 6:gold: per turn.
Treasury is starting to look health finally.
Spoiler :

T316 - 1 Archer died.

Glorious Sword Random Event! :D
My City Raider III Sword near the barb city Thracian healed up to full and got 3xp for free.
Used to gift to kill another Thracian Archer at 99% odds and moved everyone 1N1E of Thracian to heal up.
The annoying, annoying barbs moved 2 Archers in Thracian and have another 2 Archers 1N1W of the city to reinforce it even more.
Spoiler :

Traded Meditation to Khmer for 560:gold: (I've known Japan/China/Yue so long that a minor tech like Meditation won't give me -1 Worst Enemy)

Founded my 28th city Edirne, a salty Fishing town that can steal Tarsus' food and get some specialists working eventually.
Spoiler :

African scout reports the horn of Africa is a desert.
Spoiler :

Whipped Granary in Istanbul.
Lighthouse was completed in Dhaka.

.....
.......................
What the hell am I doing?
Thracian is turning into Stalingrad while 7 Khmer Workers slip through my fingers.
The Ghost of Tachywaxon is going to murder me in my sleep.

Ok, time out.
It's now the end of T316.

My diplo getting everyone to DOW Khmer is working way better than I thought, and my plans to get barb cities in the north is a massive failure.

Just look at Thracian.
It will have 5 Archers defending it next turn while my guys will be healing up and even more barbs are probably coming to save it. :wallbash:
Plus, it doesn't have gems or gold, just sheep, wine, an oasis, and when borders pop a slow effort to get iron and horses.
I've killed 2 Archers already and it just doesn't seem worth it to continue when I can have the Khmer mega cities instead.
Spoiler :

I should be concentrating on cutting out Khmer's heart now that 3 major civs are at war with him.
Khmer can even be divided neatly into North Khmer and South Khmer.
Khmer pours all his military to protect his 4 northern cities against Japanese/Chinese/Yue stacks of doom.
While he does that, I strike his lightly defended southern cities with my concentrated force.
No scouting, no defense, all offense. (I can investigate his cities now :crazyeye:)
Spoiler :
North Khmer (4 Cities)

South Khmer (My main attack in roughly 10 turns)

Explore Siberia on T315?
Sounds like more of my brain damage! :hammer2:
I think it is safe to stop pretending there might be something nice up there.

My reluctance to 1-pop whip military units in every city is also seeming more silly now that I think about it.
(Horse Archer is 75:hammers:, Catapult is 75:hammers:, War Elephant is 90:hammers:, whip produces 90:hammers: per population)
Calendar is coming soon and I have all 4 :) resources down in India. (Silk, Spices, Dye, and Incense)
Metal Casting is coming sooner or later, and a Forge whip will get another +3 :) in any city since I have Gold + Gems + Silver.
Lots of Markets can be whipped for +2 :) or even +3 :) once I get Silk.
Spoiler :

All of India is covered in forests that could be chopped if I'd lay off the food and cottages.
Many cities still have the option to 2-pop whip a Barracks and overflow into a military unit.
Marketplaces (450:hammers:) are tough to whip to generate any kind of overflow with or without the Hindu Organized Religion +25%:hammers: bonus.

I think it is time to recall all Axe scouts, recall all northern forces leaving the barbs alone, start whipping and replacing veteran units up north with rookies, and start planning for war with Khmer in 10 turns.
North Khmer should be quite busy by then.
I should get a free path into South Khmer if I move some spies ahead to revolt cities as I go.

It's a shame someone is trading Khmer Iron.
There is one source when I inspect Khmer's capital Yasodharapura.
He has 1 active source of Bronze under Isvarapura, but no other homegrown metals.
The Iron he has on the island of Lingapura is still jungle.
Spoiler :

Turnset 82 (T317 to T319)

T317 - Barbarians: 1 Axe died.

Carthage is plotting war.

Mobilizing my entire empire for war with Khmer. :cowboy:
Withdrawing Thracian troops southeast and leaving the barb city alone.
It should take about 9 turns to reach Khotan through China + Khmer.
The plan is to be ready to attack in 10 or 11 turns. (Thracian troops will be healed by then)
Spoiler :

Cheap + weak garrison units will replace strong garrison units.
All 10xp units guarding against barbs will be replaced.
All units except African Scout and Siberian Scout will be utilized.
Every city will have a sign (Alt+S) placed on it to help remind me of the plan every turn.
Spoiler :

Traded Literature to China for 790:gold:
Traded Marble to Shaka for 8:gold: per turn.
Traded Rice to Carthage for 3:gold: per turn.
Spoiler :

Yue withdrew into his borders to reform his Stack of Doom.
Barbs are pestering Bukhara.
Spoiler :

Axe whipped in Bactra. (Overflow into Axe)
Settler 4-pop whipped in Dhaka. (Overflow into War Elephant)

T318 - Barbarians: 1 Axe died.

Bukhara Cows pillaged by barbarian Axe. :(
Spoiler :

Poland is plotting war.

Horseback Riding discovered!
I can hear the trumpeting of War Elephants already.
100% on Civil Service next. (Someone is probably already teching Music)
Spoiler :

Gained 14:gold: from a partially completed Hindu Missionary in Tashkent. (Can only have 3 Hindu Missionaries on the map at one time)
Spoiler :

The Yue Stack of Doom grew to 13 units. (4 Spear, 3 Horse Archers, 2 War Elephants, 2 Chariots, 1 Axe, and 1 Archer)
Spoiler :

Canceled Copper to Yue.
Traded Copper to Yue for 8:gold: per turn.

Hinduism spread to Edrine using Missionary.
Axe whipped in Bronze City. (Overflow into Courthouse)
Catapult whipped in Tashkent. (Overflow into War Elephant)

T319 - Barbarians: No deaths.

Great Scientist born in Arabia.
Great Scientist born in Babylon.

Borders popped in Pasargadae + Tarsus.

Hungary is plotting war.

Founded Ankara, a Tibetan metropolis, 4N of Biskek.
It is very remote, so I'll guard it with an Axe 1N1W and 2E in the forested hilltops.
Spoiler :

Replacement of the 10xp northern units is going well.
Spoiler :

The Yue are marching their stack Northwest.
My Axe has run out of time to keep monitoring them, so I'll see the Yue stack again whenever it enters Khmer territory.
Khmer is really into war production right now.
The Deity AI is effortlessly producing units.
Chariots are worse than useless than against War Elephants, so hopefully Khmer keeps producing those.
Spoiler :

African scout reports the eastern coast of Africa is lightly settled.
Spoiler :

Traded Ivory to Hungary for Marble.

Barracks 2-pop whipped in Dariush Kabir. (Overflow into War Elephant)

Turnset 83 (T320 to T322)

T320 - Barbarians: No deaths.

Founded Bursa, a tiny slave pit, 3E of Tarsus.
I foresee constant whipping in its dismal future once the Wheat 1N gets farmed. :whipped:
Spoiler :

I've got 16 units gather in Khotan now, but it isn't enough to invade Khmer just yet.
Catapults only bombard -4% city defense per turn against Walls. (Walls reduce city bombard damage by 50%)
With 5xp, they can be promoted with City Raider I + Accuracy I to do -8% defense per bombard against Walls.
What's the best number of Catapults to attack with?
If there are 7 or 8 defenders, then 5 Catapults are best.

Each attack causes 10% hp collateral damage against 5 or 6 defenders, so 5 attacks ends up with all the defenders at half hp. (Elephants + Sword murder half hp defenders)
The unit that defended against the Catapult is capped at losing -75% hp compared to collateral damage capped at -50% hp.
Spoiler :

Khmer is really wasting Worker turns farming over forts.
Spoiler :

Lighthouse completed in Estruscan
Barracks 2-pop whipped in Tarsus. (Overflow into War Elephant)
Market 4-pop whipped in Biskek. (Overflow into War Elephant)
Spy whipped in Sardis. (Overflow into Spy)

Canceled Rice + Fish to Hungary.
Traded Rice to Hungary for 8:gold: per turn.

T321 - Barbarians: No deaths.

Babylon wants to be gifted Currency.
I said Yes for +1 diplo.
Spoiler :

Ethiopia wants to be gifted Construction.
I said Yes for +1 diplo.
Spoiler :

Yue's stack finally appeared.
They have 10 units 1N1W of Cherokee.
Cherokee is a hilltop city with 0% defenses guarded by 5 Khmer units.
There is a good chance Yue will conquer Cherokee I'd say. :)
Spoiler :

African scout is starting to find larger cities as it goes south.
Spoiler :

Courthouse completed in Ecbatana.
Lighthouse completed in Khotan.
Lighthouse completed in Chinook.
Granary completed in Persepolis.
Market 4-pop whipped in Varanasi. (Overflow into War Elephant)
Hammam 2-pop whipped in Kashgar. (Overflow into War Elephant)

T322 - Barbarians: 1 Warrior died. (Siberia)

Inquisition in Madrid purged all non-Hindu religions.
At 120:hammers: each, the Inquisitor costs twice as much as a Missionary.
A good way to prevent someone from getting a Giant Earth Mod 80% religious influence victory I suppose, especially if you are running Theocracy.
I wonder if the Advanced AI is smart enough to delete a gifted Missionary, or if they'd spread the religion during Theocracy and then use an Inquisitor?
Sneaky economic warfare if Inquisitors get used to remove only 1 religion. ^_^

Yue captured back their city Cherokee from the Khmer. :D
Spoiler :

Traded Currency + Horseback Riding to Netherlands for Metal Casting.
Metal Casting discovered!
Spoiler :

The 360:hammers: Forge will be a great building to get +25%:hammers: and +3 happiness in a city.
In most cities I will try to minimize the production overflow when whipping Forges since it tends to lose some hammers.
(If I have lots of population to burn, I'll go for max overflow anyway)

How :hammers: overflow is calculated in Civ 4:
All total overflow :hammers: in civ 4 get divided by production bonuses in between turns.
Then these base hammers get multiplied again by stone/marble/forge/heroic epic/factory/etc. +%:hammers: bonuses to produce units/buildings the following turn.
Any production overflow after that gets divided by production bonuses in between turns down to base hammers and carried into the next turn.
(The base hammers carried into the next turn can't exceed the base hammers of the building/unit just completed)

If I get 80:hammers: overflow whipping a Forge, then next turn I'll have 80/1.25 = 64 base:hammers: overflow which can then get +25%:hammers: bonus from Forge.
Those vanished hammers are due entirely to the Forge completing before the total production overflow is calculated down to base overflow.

Settler 4-pop whipped in Khotan for the fish island southwest of Chinook. (Overflow into War Elephant)
Market 4-pop whipped in Lahore. (Overflow into War Elephant)
Spy whipped in Pasargadae. (Overflow into Spy)
Chariot whipped in Ergili to help garrison cities. (Overflow into Chariot)
War Elephant chopped in Dariush Kabir.

Hopefully that barb Archer attacks Kashgar instead of pillaging my flood plain desert Wheat farm. (takes forever to build those)
My main army in Khotan is up to 23 units now.
Major reinforcements will arrive in about 4 turns.
Yue is doing very well against Khmer.
Can't wait for China + Japan to arrive in force too.
Spoiler :

Turnset 84 (T323 to T324)

T323 - Barbarians: 1 Archer and 1 Warrior died. (Yay! Archer died attacking city and didn't pillage my 7:food: desert farm)

The Yue Empire wants me to cancel my deals with Khmer. (Open Borders)
Ughhhnnn, even 1 more turn later and I'd say yes because my units would teleport home.
But if I say yes now, they will be stuck on the other side of Khmer.
..
.....
Told the Yue NO and took -1 diplo.
Spoiler :

Great Scientist born in Biskek!
If I use it to bulb now, it would do 5733:science: for Philosophy (4500 science + 9 per population) which is a bit over half that needed to complete the tech.
Plus, I don't need the Philosophy since I can already switch to Pacifism thanks to Shwedagon Paya.
Will save it to bulb most of Paper.
Spoiler :

African scout continues to find moderately sized cities.
Spoiler :

Traded Wine to Poland for 10:gold: per turn.

The AI are starting to have good amounts of gold for trade.
Spoiler :

Broadly speaking, how much :gold: an AI will be willing to trade to you is based off Total_Empire_Population * Turns you've known that AI.
(Mansa and Louis have the highest iMaxGoldTradePercent value, so they tend to have the most gold to trade)
That's why vassalized civs that have lost most of their empire population always seem to have 0:gold: to trade.
The true calculation is much more complicated and can be found here and here.

Worker completed in Estruscan.
Forge 3-pop whipped in Pataliputra. (No overflow)
Barracks 2-pop whipped in Ecbatana. (Overflow into Catapult)

T324 - Barbarians: No deaths.

Ragnar made peace with Egypt.

Israel won't trade Calendar because David is building Mausoleum of Maussollos.
Hungary won't trade Theology because Stephen is building Apostolic Palace or Hagia Sophia.
The Advanced_AI seems to start building wonders the very turn a new tech is acquired
It is certainly hurting my ability to trade monopoly techs with Friendly civs! (They all say "We have our reasons")

Turnset 85 (T324 to T326)

T324 Continued - I've decided to move the capital to Lahore.

Readers will probably wonder about the logic of constructing a 480:hammers: Palace in the middle of a major military buildup.
Truthfully, Invincible City is a poor capital compared to some of the Indian Cities.
I can't bear to switch to Bureaucracy until the capital city gets moved.
Lahore has 3 Wheat farms and tons of riverside cottage spots.
I can even chop some forests later to speed up Oxford University.
Spoiler :

Khmer is looking weak in Nagara Jayasri with only 4 defenders, but he has a lot of units in the rest of his cities.
The war possibilities with 2:move: units and the ability to renew losses with cheap units means I need overwhelming force before I attack.
Spoiler :

Horse Archer whipped in Kashgar. (Overflow into Catapult)
Granary chopped in Bursa.
Forge 3-pop whipped in Delhi. (No overflow)
Forge 4-pop whipped in Biskek. (Overflow into Catapult)
Spy whipped in Pasargadae. (Overflow into Axe because there are some Khmer units near Persia's old capital Persepolis)
Spoiler :

T325 - Barbarians: 1 Archer and 1 Warrior died.

Barbs got frisky up near Kasgar since the replacement Axe got there a bit late.
Spoiler :

Great General born in a faraway land.
Great Prophet born in the Netherlands.

War roads connecting to Khmer are being completed 1N1E of Biskek, 1N2E of Biskek, and 1N2E of Khotan.
3E1S of Biskek would be nice too, but there isn't enough time.
I've got 44 units in Khotan and everything including the Spies and healed up units should be ready to go on T327.
The 1143:espionage: should be good for 3 city revolts before I start running low.
Spoiler :

Rome has Feudalism to trade, but I only have Compass which isn't enough.
Traded Pigs to Rome for 7:gold: per turn.

African scout has now reached Shaka's homeland.
Spoiler :

Spy chopped in Bursa. (Oops, meant to chop into Ecbatana which has a Barracks)
Spy whipped in Sardis. (Overflow into Spy)

T326 - Barbarians: No deaths.

Isabella completed the Hagia Sophia. (+50% Worker speed)
It is not in Madrid, and she still won't trade Theology because she is building the Apostolic Palace.
Spoiler :

Khmer is starting to have more fighting in the north as Yue + China + Japan pillage tiles and put pressure on Banteay Kdei and Isvarapura.
Spoiler :

48 units have assembled in Khotan, and they are eager to strike at Nagara Jayasri and Hariharalaya starting next turn.
They have 4 defenders and 3 defenders respectfully, but can easily pull many more from nearby cities.
Spoiler :

Khmer also has 1 Axe, 1 Sword, 1 Warrior, and 1 Spear being pests in my western empire near Pasargadae.
Every unit needed to kill them will be in place for the DOW next turn.
Spoiler :

African scout has found the Zulu capital Ulundi.
It is moderately impressive with Gems and Iron to go with good defenders.
Spoiler :

Catapult chopped in Estruscan.
Forge 3-pop whipped in Dhaka. (No overflow)
War Elephant whipped in Ergili.
Spoiler :

Awesome thread Kaitzilla! Thanks!

One question on the game:
With such a huge empire and civic changes incoming, why is bulbing paper better than a golden age?

That's my thinking as well. UoS would be ideal for TT's with the AI's, as the +2 beakers ( I think?) per building would give a hefty sci jump.
Although, with a war vs Khmer, a golden age wouldn't be a bad thought either. Must have been a tough call for Kait.

Hmm UoS. Perhaps that is it.

As for war, I assumed that cut against a golden age. With a war, you tend to slave your population for quick units. This lowers your population and lowers the benefit of a GA. Moreover, in a GA, I usually like to run Caste System (not slavery) so i can "farm" up another Great Person.

Is the decision at all dependent on map size and game speed? I only play standard size / normal, so I have no idea :crazyeye:

Invincible to everything but bureaucratic conspiracy.

That's a good point.
Since I have total power, I shall rename my new capital, ...
Even More Invincible City!

My old capital can become Kaitzillastan.

One question on the game:
With such a huge empire and civic changes incoming, why is bulbing paper better than a golden age?

That is a really good question.

The strongest thing in a Marathon civ game is military conquest because of the extra turns to conquer with and cheaper units.
This gets magnified in Giant Earth Mod to an insane degree with double :move: speed and even cheaper units.

I've been pretty aggressive recently with my military, and it is the main reason my empire is #1 in score right now.

My main teching goal right now is to reach some vital military techs first.
Engineering is a big one.
Extra road movement speed, Trebuchets, Castles, Pikemen, Notre Dame (+2 :) to all cities on continent!), and Levees to turn riverside cities into production powerhouses all get unlocked.
The thing is, I need Machinery before I can tech Engineering, and it is one of those techs the AI like to tech.
If I wait long enough, one of the civs I'm Friendly with will tech it, and since it doesn't unlock any World Wonders they should trade it to me right away.
If I wait to trade for Engineering, I'm 99% sure all the AI will start Notre Dame and be unwilling to trade it. (Happens every time in GEM :()
Spoiler :

So until an AI techs Machinery for me, I'm killing time by teching towards another military goal.
That goal is Gunpowder (Janissary 9:strength: gets +25% vs. melee, archery, and mounted units!)
Or Replaceable Parts (Cannon! 12:strength: causes tons of collateral damage)
Yes, don't need Steel in Giant Earth Mod to get those silly Cannons. :)
Both paths require Paper.
Spoiler :

So that's why I'm angling to bulb Paper. :D
There are other techs I could choose, but only Military Tradition that unlocks Curaissers is interesting and that requires Gunpowder to use.
Spoiler :

Gr8scott, reason - University of Sankore, it seems to me

University of Sankore is not that strong unless a player has a lot of Monasteries and Temples.
Temples are very expensive (nearly a Library) and only give +1 :).

Honestly, it is a wonder I'd build only if my civ was Spiritual and got half priced Temples, I wasn't trying for a Space Race win, and I wasn't trying for a military victory.

I'll give it some more thought since Scientific Method won't be coming any time soon with this Mod. (obsoletes Monasteries)

That's my thinking as well. UoS would be ideal for TT's with the AI's, as the +2 beakers ( I think?) per building would give a hefty sci jump.
Although, with a war vs Khmer, a golden age wouldn't be a bad thought either. Must have been a tough call for Kait.

I'm thinking a Golden Age might be best once I have lots of Levees built.
All those river tiles would give +2:hammers: during a Golden Age if I had Levees (540:hammers: each). :)

Plus, as my empire gets larger and larger, I won't be facing 4 turns of Anarchy to switch 2 civics as the game goes on (right now), but more like 6 or 7.
Every increase of my empire by 16? or 20? cities makes my length of Anarchy go up one turn.
The slower pace of this Mod's teching and the larger size of the world makes me feel like I should delay my 1st Golden Age more than on a normal game.
