having working on saved games that just dont load anymore for whatever reason either crashing my computer intirely (Arab civ) or just ctd (Japan civ) after i worked on them for hours, really is an experience ruining bug. I lost interest in making a mod map since laying down new land over ocean in the editor takes about 30 seconds a square, blahh WTH? If i wasnt worried it wouldnt load id atleast make a map using the earth to make a Roman era world or something modern but forget it.
And also, any game that ships like this with a ton of bugs is just a greedy effort to make money before Christmas, yet oddly sacraficing the company's image, I wouldnt want to be a Firaxis shareholder

Nao,

The statistics here are going to be anywhere from slightly accurate to vastly wrong. I'll throw out an example:

What if only 10% of the people who bought Civ4 are having problems and reading the tech support forum? Then the 60odd% make up 6.x% of the people who bought the game. That's of course assuming only 10%. But it's not way out of line to claim 10%, or 80% even, since the statistics are out of our reach.

As for me, only bug I have is that I can't use the mulitplayer chat for some reason. I can enter text, but it won't get sent. Just sits there in the text entry without doing anything, no matter how many times I hit the enter key. I've lost many chances to play online because people think I'm stupid. Well if by stupid they mean I can't send messages to them, then yes, I'm stupid.

I just wonder why there's only a total of 3 people posting this bug...

Edit: I'm glad zsc said what I was thinking more clearly. 69 people out of HOW MANY SOLD?!

69 people out of everyone who have purchased the game and/or installed the game...talk about out of context.

Laramon... we already dealt with that issue... plus it's not 60% guys who have problems with it, it's 60% guys who CAN'T play the game. Even from a tech support forum, from people who are already supposed to have problems, it is pretty HUGE. If you have ANY problems, if means it's 60% chances not to be able to play the game. Huge.

I already answered to your "x people is low" also through zsc, it is a PERCENTAGE, so it have all the chances to remain the same from even 15 people to 15 billion people, because people who vote are samples of vastly brewed masses.

I just played a 2 1/2 hour game with the Greeks which went FLAWLESSLY after I did some changes. Let me explain:

I lowered by CPU clock speed from 2000 to 1500, and I enabled the option called "Overdrive" on my ATI Radeon 9600XT. Basically this is a monitored over-clock for the card. I also lowered the sound in the game to stereo sound from 5.1 and started up.

I had been able to play for alittle on new games before, but with big stutters and such. This time she worked like a charm. No stutters, no problems even with the videos.

BUT:

As soon as I got up to use the can I came back and my comp was in reboot! I mean for F*** sake!

So I get in, load the last quicksave, and BAM!! The same damn reboot issues.

This is so F***ing frustrating it's really getting to me.

What in the hell is wrong with this game?!?!

Nao, you're missing the point. The subject pool you've chosen is not scientifically sound.

Like it was said before: it's "the same as going to a Micheal Moore fan club site and holding a poll on whether Bush lied."

People with running machines are not going to come to the tech support forums more than say 10% of the time. And even then, would they complain about it not working? No...

Why are people so thick headed? 100,000s of copies went out, and 79 people have voted "I encounter major problems that ruin the experience or make it purely impossible or very difficult." - enough said.

Because those of us who are experiencing problems have far greater concerns than multiplayer chat might be the reason.

Not sure why you feel the need to abuse people because they are looking at an issue from a different point of view. Your take on stats seems worse than his if you think only 79 ppl out of 100 000 have had major problems (according to civfanatics forum).

Nao started the thread to see if there was a significant number of people having problems with Civ4. On the basis of the replies he was going to determine whether or not he should buy Civ 4 before the patch came out. His thread, his decision.

I for one am wishing I had done the same instead of purchasing it the time of release. A quick look throught he forums will tell anybody that there are significant problems.

Did the same for MOO3 and didnt buy a new release until this one. I have now sworn off new releases forever (until Civ 5, GalCiv 2 or Masters of Magic 2 :D )

Dear Lord have mercy...

Does anyone know even the basics of statistics and probability here? He's assuming that 60odd% of the people who bought the game can't play. I pointed out that the number was extremely flawed, since he posted it in a place where the majority of people are going to be coming when they have a problem. By the same merit, very few people are going to be coming here and screaming "OMG, I FREAKING WORKS!" I don't know how much more plain I can get with this... 10s to 100s of thousands of copies bought, 80 people complaining here, and to be fair let's say this is only 1/10th of the people having issues. So, that's between 0.8% to 8%, compared to his 60odd percent figure.

As for my comment, it wasn't directed at "OMG, why aren't you people complaining about my issue????!!!111111" It was more "Hmm, I wonder why only 3 people have this bug."

Oh, my...you are discovering hot water... there are already 3 or 5 posts in this thread that explain this situation.
Not only the percentages are not on 100% who bought the game, but neither on 100% who visit this forum because for many of them ci4 works fine and they don't need Tech support.
AND even if they need, lot of people simply don't care to vote.

This is not a poll "Does civ4 works or not?"

This is more "How many of you are experiencing probems?"
Percentages are simply useless in this case, but there's only one kind of poll avaible. So just ignore % please :) We are not math erethics.

We simply want NUMBERS, to be able to amplify our sufference so that Firaxis can hear us... (I explain that "us" is people having problems. Ok? :D )

And now, VOTE :D

Perhaps posting a poll, NOT in a technical support forum: like the strategy or general forums might get you less slanted results.

:P

I am not sure if you really read other people post as your list of responses tend to indicate otherwise but here goes.

In all probability I have the same multiplayer fault as you. However, since I also have the BSOD fault, The Hard Crash Fault, the Movie Crash, Diplomacy screen Crash, the Unit Crash fault the last thing I am concerned about is whether I am unable to chat to someone in multiplayer mode.

Maybe I should pray as you do, as that would probably have more chance getting the game to work than the publishers at the moment.

Who cares if this is "properly scientific".

This game isnt coded very well... and tons of people are having problems that exceed the minimum requirements. I just built this computer and its a 2.6 GHz A64 with a gig of ram, raptor HD, and 6600 GT. It should run anything without much problem. Not this game though...

I'm pretty sure its the sound drivers... since I'm using USB speakers. Thats still pretty rediculous though, since it runs every other game made just fine.

erm anyone else here mentioned one rule of basic statistics?

if your posting in a technical support thread asking who has had problems your likely to get a VERY biased return on results try posting in general or somewhere completley neutral!

EDIT: lol guess i wasnt the only one that noticed well u are getting 'support' about ur questsion so suppose thats what u should expect for posting here...

Though, 60% anywhere seems quite high to me.

Actually not. Why visit a techforum when you've no problems running the game. Why don't put up another poll in general? Maybe you can get a better view of it then, but still people without problems will be less quickly to praise the game, then those with problems to complain about it. Understandable really, but something to keep in mind.
