This thread is for general tactics and stradegy discussion for this war (since no one seems to discuss in the military thread much anymore :( (ahh the good olde days)

Anyway, I think we will soon be ready to march on Kyoto. Here's my plan now...

When we regain order in Plexenburg we should rush a pike in there (I'm not sure how much it'll cost just yet though, I imagine it would be slightly more than 100g). This way we can clean Plexenburg of it's current units. only problem is the unhappyness this will cause with the smaller police force, and the potential vulnerablity, but I think the gamble's worth it.

We then need to take the swords from Kells Area (leaving one behind for garrison if need be, we might rush another pike there for 76g to allow us to use all the swords) and then march on Kyoto, approaching that tile to the NE of their city from which to launch an attack from, so we don't have to cross the river.

We should approach via the Mined tile east of Kyoto so we will have the defensive advantage should they attack directly from their city on that turn.

And hopefully we will take Kyoto soon after we're in possition with...

1- Swordmen Army
3-4 - Swordmen
5 - horses

Ideas...? Critics...? Adjustments...?

What do you think of this, Falcon?

I suggest we set our sights on Kyoto(we should attack from the mountains to Kyoto's west - it only adds an extra turn). After that, if we feel we are strong enough, we should split our troops with half following the mountains south to Nara and half heading north through the mountains and hills to Tokyo. We should send our army Tokyo's way, as the city is founded on hills.

I believe that Russia could take care of the iron in Osaka and any western cities. We can make assessments later as to whether we should go after Japan's smaller cities.

Also, let's start the march to Kyoto NOW. Having the majority of our strike force based in Plexenburg while that town's riots continue makes me (culture) flippin' nervous.

I had posted this in eyrei's thread a few spots down. I think we should beeline straight west to mountain two tiles SW of Kyoto. By staying off the main road(which won't do us any good anyway, since we are in enemy territory), we have a better chance of getting in place without being noticed. Slim chance, but maybe. Once we get to that mountain, move one spot north to mountain due west of Kyoto and prepare to attack!

This is our best defensive position and we will be on the same side of the river as Kyoto. Also, let's start sending some horsemen down from the Riga/ Ibizia area as soon as our settlers are in place(should be next turn). They should be able to catch up in time for the attack.

Sounds pretty good, just one slight problem.... Nara's to the NW of Kyoto. I assume you mean Nagoya which is along the mountian range and to the SW, or Suo directly to the South.

Secondly, your route to Kyoto wouldn't avoid the roads anymore than mine.

However, your route does give us a better defensive position of the mountians. So, I'm for it!!

Yes, of course....Nagoya! I am glad you like my plan because this way our whole offensive can advance thru mountains and hills. We can take Suo on the way home. ;)

Hi. I have drawn up a map which incorporates both of your ideas and adds a few thoughts of my own.

First, this needs to be a coordinated attack on a couple of different levels. We need to make that trade deal with the Romans for the Dyes. Plexenburg is hooked up to the rest of the nation via a road, so it will benefit from the Dye deal. We also need Governor Zoi to get that Pike rushed in New Falcon's Nest for 40g (as opposed to the Pike in Plexenburg for 76g). Once those two things are accomplished, we can start making moves.

Send the Vet Pike in NFN to Kells.
Send the Elite Sword in Kells to the mined wheat SE of Plex.
Send the Vet Sword NW of Kells to Plex, send workers to SE.
In Plexenburg:
Wake all units. Fortify the Spear.
Send 3-man Army and 2 Elite Swords along the Yellow Arrow.
Send 3 Vet Horses and 1 Reg Horse along the Red Arrow.
Move the Elite Horse NE of Plex into Plex to heal. We should have 3 units in Plex now and the citizens should be happy. We should have the Army, 2 Swords and 4 Horses on the road to Kyoto. An Elite Sword will be just outside Plex and a Vet Sword will be just outside Kells.

On the next turn a Vet Pike will be produced in NFN. The Sword will arrive in Kells and the Sword and Horse in Plex can head for Suo or Kyoto. The Horses en route to Kyoto will arrive on the Mountain, and the Swords will leave the road and head west. The Dyes and the reinforcements should keep everyone happy. If you want to rush the Pike in Plex, that's fine, but it won't be necessary. When the Vet Pike from NFN gets to Kells, send the Vet Sword to Plex. We should also send the Vet Sword from Serenity to Kells and then onto Plex. Rather complicated, I know, but we're going to have to be REAL good to kick Japan's butt. Here's the map:

Also, keep in mind that the Iroquois and the Greeks(at least) now have Chivalry which means we should get that next turn. We should try to send some of our horsemen down and have them upgraded(at NFN?). That should help us greatly if we want to set our sights past Kyoto.

True, but I wouldn't send any of the Four Horsemen we have in the initial strike force or the wounded one outside of Plexenburg. Others, yes. But not the ones we have in the current warplans.

@Cyc- Agreed! I meant if we were to send horsemen down from the settler wars. I would not advise retreating for an upgrade.

Hmmm. We must not be at war with Japan anymore...
