Update on 4UC Integration (5.0) and the Future of VP

@Recursive, any chance for an update for the weekend? If not (and that's fine), I'm going to start playing my current game again but it just felt stupid investing hours in a newly started, long game on epic speed, when a new version was about to be released, so I was holding back on gaming.
If you don't mind me asking - How long does it take you to get through a game on epic speed? I tried a couple of times (seems like years ago) and I really enjoyed it but never got to finish a game. Do you also play on standard? If so, do you find it similarly balanced to epic?

Never played Standard - always epic - but a game on epic can take a loooooong time for me to finish (speaking in Calendar days) as I usually have rather little time to play per day. That's why I was wondering if it would be better to wait and start aa new game incl. whatever fixes/improvements may be in the update or just continue from turn 30 or so. It sounded like it was coming very soon, so I stopped playing. I'm ok with that, if it takes longer time (they doing this fantastic mod for free for me!!!), but it would be nice to know if I'm waiting in vain :)

Do you feel like it might be unbalanced? How many civs you play with? Difficulty? Sorry for so many questions, I'm curious as well because like @James Ryle I've started a few games on that speed but never managed to finish it xD

I'm not the one to ask those questions as I'm not running standard mod setup. Running a lot of other mods and have also modmodded CPP. Sorry 😐

The next version will "only" be bug fixes/preparations/reorganizations for 3/4 UC integration, so you can do your game without any problem.

Recursive said it was not save game compatible so I think it would be better to wait IF the bug fixes affect my current game and its getting released "now'ish". Haven't heard what's included in the bug fixes, but for a long term game it would be irritating to miss out on something.

You could play a game and once that game has ended with your resounding victory, then download the latest update. I think that's a better method than repeatedly asking the people who are doing this for free when they are going to have their free work ready.

I wouldn't have asked if an ETA hadn't been given without the update bring released. Anyway as I also wrote, I'm fine with it.

Hello Skodkim,
While you are waiting and since you only play on Epic, there is a game on Steam that is supposedly the closet game to Civ that can be played in 1 to 2 hours. It's got an 89% very positive rating.

I was thinking it might be interesting for you see what it feels like to blast through a game and that might entice you to try other game lengths. Again, I admire you are able to get through an Epic game.

Tell me you don't just play Epic but on Deity with a Random Civ and win a game then I shall salute you, sir.

Ps - this is the link to the game: Ozymandias

It's an ok game, but very simple. I'd recommend Old World as a shorter Civ.

Sorry for the delays. I want the final 2UC release(s) to be high quality and while I've been more available, I haven't had the time to spend hours and hours of continuous work - which is required to integrate certain structural changes without causing issues, so I've had to hold off on it. However, it should be relatively soon. Aiming for the next couple days.

We can wait! Thanks for all the hard work. It is much appreciated.

While testing, we've encountered an issue where memory is becoming corrupted, with an unclear cause and leading to gamebreaking bugs. Having difficulty finding the cause, so unfortunately there will be more delay since I can't do a new release in this state.

Take your time. Know that there are strangers in the world who are very grateful for all the joy you have brought us.

We all deeply appreciate all your hard work. Please please take as long as needed.

I even think it's not worth giving dates for this, people are impatient, but they'll be impatient regardless. Putting dates adds pressure, and I think it's a very safe bet that'd we'd all prefer our modders relaxed and updates slow, than modders stressed about meeting deadlines/expectations.

Absolutely! Personally, I prefer everyone involved putting in all the time they need at their own pace to make the new version as smooth as possible. I'm glad we are all on a similar page here. It's a free product after all and no one of us should feel entitled to demand something from modders. We probably wouldn't be playing CIV5 anymore without their hard and dedicated work.

Game studios need to worry about profit, competitors, and collaborations. We don't have those burdens.
