General Turn Discussion

To be safe...we could always insert a warrior build before the settler is complete.

It costs us time settling obviously...but it allows us to settle in ideal location if W2 finds more food N of the wheat...or at least transit safely to the current site without worry.

Actually...while we could build a third warrior before the settler it would be horrifically(sp?) inefficient.

I am clear that it messes with the current plan...We would still put the chops into the settler and use that minor exploit. I am VERY CLEAR that this is not ideal...but what if there is food just out of site to the N of the copper or wheat and we miss it...Is it not better to settle in the ideal location even if it is 2-3 turns later. Just intuition talking...but it seems to me that another food resource would pay for itself in very little time.

well, we don't want our first cities to far from the capital, incurring high maintenance costs.

THe choice isn't between settling the ideal site X+3 turns later or the current site on turn X, the gamble you are proposing is scouting with a weakened warrior for a possible beter site and certainly delaying settling any second city (even if the second city would still be the current marked one) or settling the currently marked one, and also delaying all future expansion.

Another problem with moving that city site north is that we would either leave a lot of hills unworked for the entire game or move the gems city north as well, crippling it with lots of peaks.

W1 in the SE is 1.8...this guy (woody) can move in the woods/jungle imo.

W2 in the NW is 1.2...this guy needs to heal....but I would probably heal on the tile SW for the defense bonus.

@ Krill...

That is why I proposed inserting another warrior...

I tend to play a little more cautiously in a situation like this....losing a settler to bad luck with the RNG is very crippling.

And the problem with inserting another warrior is that it delays all of our future settler and worker builds, which is why I think changing the city site is a bad idea

Something I want to sim out; whether settling the cow site 2nd now would be worse than waiting on a third warrior. That third warrior costs us something like 3 turns, and really screws up the workers as Memphus said.

Why move W2 at all if we don't go the best defensive tile?

W1 is woody in the woods at 1.8...effectively 3.06 as long as he stays in the woods/jungle.

W2 is needed to defend the settler when we go to the copper city. The only tile a barbs can be on next turn if W2 moves 3 is the grass hill 1 of the tile, whereas a barb could be on one of 5 tiles, so moving 3 gives a 1/5 lower chance of running into a barb, the downside is the warrio will probably die unless the barb is a wolf, in which case the warrior only might die. But if we moved the warrior 1, there is still a chance it could die.

I don't see any reason to screw up our builds in the cap - I'd be ok with just letting the settler sit for a turn, safe in the borders. We get extra warriors a turn or two later, but if we are that worried about the safety of W2, that's fine.

As long as we make healing a priority, there will be no reason to have the settler sitting around. (apart from moving forward and finding a bear.)

The settler is still 4 turns away...we don't need to fog bust quite yet do we?

At the start of T31 it is still in our borders...as our borders will pop before then....

So really 5 turns until it leaves borders

OK, just checked the timing, we can heal for turns 26 and 27, but we have to move on turn 28 to intercept the settler on the turn it steps outside our culture. Would a 1.4 strength warrior be strong enough to defend on a hill against a lion or panther?

cow site would of been ok if we dediced to do it before we went hunting for 2 turns. now the site won't progress.

have faith run the plan. Warrior #2 will guard the settler!
