There is alot of shuffling people and goods around in this game. If you are like me and get muddled then do as I do and get a book.
Re-name your ships and write the names for them in a book. Write down what they are doing to keep track of them. Eg "The North Star - TNS" could be general trade, "Geo" could be at the north of the map trading guns and horses from EU with natives next to evil Frenchies, "Red Dwarf" could need to go to EU to buy a Master Ore Miner for city "New Hobart". When you have 3+ identical ships, all going to return to the map at different locations, you need to know which ship to load the colonists for your cities onto and which to load the guns for trading with far-flung, but next to rivals, natives.
Write down what each city will be doing. This can help to remember which city the newly immigrating Master Distiller will need to get to.
Until somebody does a "BUG" mod for Col, writing things down is very helpful.
