Okay I have heard soem people run it on 64bit vista without any problems, but I seem not to be able to.

I tried following some guide to get it working but it was rather confusing, and I am not sure if it was for AC alien Xfire or just AC. (I just have AC, havent found AXfire anywehre).

So I installed it fine (complete install ofc) but when I run it my screen just goes black, and I cant ctrl alt delete or change window or anything. Windows media player still runs in the background. This makes me think it might be a graphics related issue, with something like a driver, but I have latest drivers for my graphics card (HD4870). Maybe it just cannot run with 256colours or whatever SMAC uses to run.

I tried installing the XP patch for it, and I tried running in compatiblity mode both before and after the patch, but always same problem.

It worked fine on my last 2 computers (XP) without any patches or anything.

Thanks for the help,
Tim

PS: what can be used to convert the video files to a file WMP can play (I tried 2 converters I heard could do it, but one only did audio in low quality (think I will need to buy the full version to get it to do the whole file (which I won't be doing)) and another converter I couldn't get it to recognize the files (although some dude on youtube who uploaded the vids said that was what he used to convert)

There is a buillt-in reader shipped with the game - called playuv15, if you just want to view the movies seperately - you can also select them from the scenario editor.
But as to your actual question regarding conversion - I haven't a clue.

Okay I tried the guide a few more times. And I appear to have the same problem as the person with the 2nd last post on http://www.vistareadygames.com/showthread.php?t=67586
Whenever I run the Compatability Admin database I made I get an error saying: "Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working" any ideas?
Thanks for any help, I really want to get AC working on this PC now=(

Google on your error message (including the quote marks). You'll find lots of possible solutions.

I did, but all referred to other programs, none to the compatibility administrator. And most of them were to do with programs on startup or in explorer. Which sounds quiet different to mind. As mine is when I run a certain aspect of a program.
And most solutions were like "find out which program it is, then don't use it".

I guess I could try to reinstall the compatibility administrator later today and see if that fixes it.
