Getting Great Generals up to 4.5 times faster than normal?

I've been playing with this concept. Very interesting. The idea that enemy forces are a limited resource that you can use to generate a variable amount of GG points, depending on how you use them. I like it.

As with many things in the game, there are pros and cons. Also, like other things, you can spend a different resource (production, in terms of dead units) to increase this resource.

One thing that doesn't quite "fit" in this puzzle, though, is the way the Great Wall works. It doesn't allow Barbs in your borders. However, it gives double GG points for combats in your borders. So, the "trick" works for AI but not Barbs. Well, I guess you can't have everything. :)

You are right :) to see that we are using the enemy troops as a limited "resource" that can be used to our advantage.

Also what I was advocating by attacking at lower odds (to increase exp gained) was indeed a way of trading hammers for GG points. I would point out that the GG points can also be converted back to hammers if used to build a military academy, where the 50% production bonus for military units effectively generates extra hammers. A city with a modest 20 base hammers gets a 10 hammer bonus each turn that is used to build units which is a very strong effect compared to other GPs. I can see both of these effects happening but I can't yet determine how far we should go in terms of attacking at low odds to generate GG points. As mentioned in my original post the situation is complicated by the effects of WW.

I've won at odds as low as 17% (4 Exp). I also lost a 99.8% battle.
Is it possible to get more than 5 Exp in one attack?

The GlobalDefines.xml limits the XP per combat:

GlobalDefines.xml said:
MIN_EXPERIENCE_PER_COMBAT 1
MAX_EXPERIENCE_PER_COMBAT 10

You get more XP if you are the attacker and not the defender. JJ thanks for your "field tests." So Leadership won't let you get GG up six times as fast, the ceiling is still 3 times as fast. Bummer.

Ahha. I should have thought about looking in the XML.
Sucks for the Leadership thing. :[

No barbs inside great wall is not very relevant because while they earn you XP points they don't earn any GG points.

the great wall GGpoint farming is indeed working in good synergy with th no barb thing : you can use all your troops on the invaders ;)

I never wasted time in defensive wars, but with the Great Wall, it may be the fastest way to finish a neighbour with no WW and double GG points :).

The thing is, your newly-captured cities count as your turf, so the GW is great for getting lots of points towards your next GG.. just capture a city and grab some xp while your units heal and reinforcements arrive. :)

I haven't read the whole thread so this may have been answered, but....

If unit XP = GG XP, then does a Charismatic leader also have an inadvertant bonus to GG generation?

no
charismatic leaders have cheaper promotions ( at 2, 4, 8, 13, ... XP instead of 2,5, 10, 17, ...XP).
But they don't earn more xps per fight.

That would explains the promotions when my 0.3/5 catapult recovers from defeating a barbarian longobow defending a city on a hill....

I was so surprised it was still there I barely registered the promotions.
