Giant True Start Locations Earth Map for AND

Because of multiple Terrain changes the older RoM are not compatible with AND.
You would need to add the new terrain for AND to the RoM Maps to get them to work.

Wouldn't it be easier to modify the GEM map coming with AND (and random starting location) by simply placing civs in the right starting point? 
Thanks for the tips ... could you tell me how I adjust such a map/scenario. I tried starting a game and then adjusting it with worldbuilder .... but that doesn't work because the cpu controlled nations allready found their cities, haven't tried deleting them and just adding settlers yet, but there must be a better way I can't help but think ...
I'm currently looking into the 'mapview' program, don't know if that will help, tried it for a C2C map, but it didn't seem to be fit for that.
Any suggestions are welcome, there is so much to read on modding that I don't know where to best start with this.
Have been playing a bit of Civ5 too, but as it doesn't support online mod games, it's not much fun for me and my friends since the base game isn't that good in our opinion. So it seems to be Civ4 to eternity!

I actually don't know how to do it; I remember I've tried in the past to modify some maps but had some problem and so I've given up; basically anyway I was using worldbuilder and Notepad++ (or another text editor); to avoid other civs founding their cities, I've simply chosen the first civ to play in a custom scenario using the map I want to modify. Then before doing anything I entered worldbuilder and removed every other unit in the world and placed new units where I wanted. Then there was something to modify using a text editor inside the new saved map; but there I've got lost because when I was loading the game I was always ending up with a "You have been defeated" message.
