Airships. What about putting a penguin unit in them to make it even more realistic? I mean, those poor creatures can’t fly, so why not help them?

The Internet. So the civ that builds it is the only one to get all the techs. OK, but what about introducing the possibility to turn Censorship on or off? And Parental Filter. This will have interesting effects on :), :science:, :culture:, :religion: and of course political stability.

Random Event. Turn 10: Spaceships have landed near our borders. We are likely to take the worst of the aliens’ fury.

I've seen a random event about a space ship crashing.

Those Airships should of never been added to the game, IMO

The AI seems to love them though.

I love that the AI love them! Especially if you're the first to reach Flight, and have a fighter ready when they declare war and try to bomb your improvements.

Had a fighter gaining xp from level 3 to 8 in one turn. Incredible :)

Airships are wabby. That is a Southern English word for good.

This is because they can see enemy fleets - including submarines - way before they get to your cities. They then can batter them so your navy can sink them with little difficulty. On land, they perform the same function, only against enemy stacks.

I would drop penguins on them, if they were in the game, I admit.

To counter that, if you've got an AI that beelines Physics (Joao) it can render Privateers useless before you can use them. Airships just come too early, and are too over powering.

Penguins can fly - Flying Penguins on BBC Documentary (LOL)

Beware the penguins...

dooooobedoobedoooooo.....

LOL. Your cities get lasered and you instantly lose. Awesome event!

Unless you are playing as America. American fighter jets can shoot down anything. (Maybe you get a mass hysteria event from an alleged alien invasion though...)

Maybe you're lucky enough that your cities are teeming cesspools of bacteria. ;)

Another random event: A massive electromagnetic pulse has wiped out your entire Civ4 installation, including all mods, patches and saved games. (Screen goes black).

A variation of this: your girlfriend shows up at your house. (the game quits to desktop).

My question is then why does the AI build so many of them? And how do they keep their military intact doing it?

Fighter jets in turn 10? Oh, I forgot: Even in real life the Americans have the World Builder.

Turn 10 is too early for spearmen, but when a spearman can kill a tank, maybe a warrior or even a scout can sabotage a few alien spaceships. It's worth a try, never give up.

I don't get this, is it sarcasm? Or are American jets better in the game?

Since the topic is alien spaceships, maybe Iranon is referring to movies like Independence Day? Modern Norwegian Vikings uses American F-16 fighters, but I can't remember one of them stopping an alien spaceship. But then again, we don't have a president to fly one, only a king.

Are you perchance thinking of the Civ3 UU? The Civ4 American UU is IIRC a marine.

It is not yet known whether American marines can shoot down alien spaceships (Unless said marine is called Rambo and happens to have a bow and arrow handy). :D
