Give bad advice

838. An alternative way to use MGLs is to build armies and disband them for shields...you can get 100 shields for any non-wonder improvement this way.

hmmm, I wonder: that might be good advice...If you have too many armies, and they're obsolete, you might disband that army for some shields so you can create a more advanced army

839) mountains and hills are really good for shields, but they take a really long time to improve (esp. mountains!!) so, if you want shields now: build your cities right next to volcanoes: they give 3 shields without even doing anything to them!!!

840. Suddenly get an SGL? Rush a scientific improvement (library/university/research lab) only, as that suits the Scientific part of SGL.

Better yet, Sashie, rush a worker. You can then join him back to the city to become.... tah dah!!!... a scientist. :D

Instead of 100 shields, why not use the MGL to rush something more expensive than 100 shields to completion?
Of course I've done the same thing when the fighting is intense with lots of elites to go :p

Good one :D I'd consider that #841!

842. If you have to choose between attacking a defender on grassland and a forest tile, attack the one on the forest tile. The forest will allow you to setup an ambush, right?

...right next to your border with Montezuma/Shaka/Bismarck, with no units to protect them.

836: Whenever you have created a new military unit, send it away to try to conquer some AI city on it's own. If you build up a large force before you attack, you give the AI time to build. Keep them constantly preoccupied by sending one unit at the time.

Yes, also that. But the main reason I said in the jungle was because Artillery get destroyed if they are fortified in the jungle (Just like troops) ;).

oops! Ok I hope know one seen that!

But the main reason I said in the jungle was because Artillery get destroyed if they are fortified in the jungle (Just like troops) ;).

I guess arty must rust, whereas the troops get malaria, huh? ;)

Isn't it more the troops that shoot the the artillery get malaria and die? Because no troops= no artillery. You need troops to fire artillery weapons. But I do see the humor in your posts ;).

(Edit) And no troops looking after the artillery (Cleaning regularly etc) means the artillery will rust soon in the rain or something. Unless an enemy finds it before serious damage occurs.

844. When fighting a war, only use artillery.

What, so you'd slow a stack of 40 Cavalry down with a bunch of Cannons...:crazyeye:

He said never, its a common newbie mistake i think :P

845. Try to break as many deals as possible. The AI's does not care and who need to trade with them anyway!

He said never, its a common newbie mistake i think :P

Yes, but that is the opposite. He said never meaning, you Should build artillery. It isn't always a common newbie mistake. If your cav's are dying from trying to kill that musket on a hill and river, then that's when you should delay the fighting and get the artillery out! :)

:bump:

846. If you get an early SGL, remember that no other unit moves as fast as three tiles per turn that early in the game. That makes him the perfect scout to travel across the world, meet other civs and make you a map of your surroundings.

847. Privateers are an excellent "good will tour" ship to meet other civs.

An actual question about the post a few pages back: It was posted as bad advice to leave a large milatary presence around a barb camp. I thought it was a valid strategy to camp to build elites.

30. Barbarian camps are filled with friendly natives. Be sure to send those unescorted workers to greet them!

Friendly natives  that's the least I'd expect to heard them called

31. Whenever your domestic advisor tells you the people are ready for a government change, ignore it! Anarchy is horrible! Just stay in despotism the whole time!

Anarchy is great!! Discover a new form of government ASAP, so you can switch to Anarchy. Then when the domestic girl asks, just ignore her and stay in anarchy.

Z12. Use workers to defend your cities. A shovel is almost as good as a spear for defense.

 This reminds me of Yuri's Revenge.
Slave -Do I still need the shovel?

668. You must exercise your attacking units even if you are not fighting a war. Just move them back and forth around your cities, that will help keeping them fit.

The AI does it ALL THE TIME when it has troops in a city that can't move beacuse of no ROP. I was so sick of it that I turned show/animate enemy moves off.

If you disband it in a city with military academy, those 100 will speed up the next army. Better to have them used for a 3 cavs than keeping your 3 archers army.

848
If you see a bunch of knights standing next to your border cities, move your defenders and let them pass... they just came for a cup of coffee

849
Move your just built army and units to a coastal city, then just hit L to load them... don't mind where they load

850
Build the Pentagon as soon as you can and fill your armies with 4 units. You'll need the extra hps when they get off your galleons.

I haven't read all of these, but some of the "bad advice" comments *may* actually work out as good advice. This comment interests me...
26) Portugal is the best civ; always play as Portugal.
which implies them as the worst tribe. Well, for an upper-level 20k game on an archipleago... provided that you get a settler from a hut... they don't necessarily make a bad choice. Even if you don't pop a settler from a hut, they still can work. More interestingly... someone... to invert this
35. Always build the Great Library on Chieftain, especially when you are the tech leader and 1 tech away from discovering Education.

851 In a 20k Cheiftain game *never* build The Great Library. Build The Sistine Chapel for its happiness effect via cathedrals as soon as you learn Theology and forget about The Great Library, since you don't need to catch up in tech.

to invert this also
56. Make a beeline for Free Artistry

852 Play a lower level 20k game and don't beeline for Free Artistry. Instead... go 0% science and play as a scientifc tribe!
