1. To use your general to his fullest extent, charge him straight into phalanxes.
2. Play as Parthia and only train your infantry.

at the start of the game, delcear war on the senate when its weakist.

Phalanxes are just a bluffs. They're really expecting you to attack from the sides or rear. Thus, you should fool them by charging straight into the spears.

Always use phalanx with their backs towords the enemy frontline.

Make the general an elephant unit.

Place all your 10 hvy onagers that costed 10000 denarii to build far from your main army.

Always charge before sending pilums.

Chariots are good on bridge battles.

Warm up your men bellow a stone wall entrance while not controling the gatehouse, hot oil is good for the skin.

Pigs are usefull, take at least 6 units.

Always bring siege equipment when fighting on german forests.

Peasants and Town Militia are the best on ambushes.

Archers should target Spartans, Slingers should target Armoured Elephants.

Enemy Horse Archers cant kill you, ignore them.

And most important, if you lost the battle it wanst your fault, it was the terrain and the sun blinding your troopers eyes.

Simply use Heavy Onagers to take a large city, with a large army inside.

(more on phalanxes) Your enemy will try and flank phalanxes, or go around behind them. Thus, face all your spearmen backwards, in a phalanx to ensure this won't occur.

Urban Cohorts make good arrow fodder.

Four units of almost any sort (aside from peasants and such) can kill a general. :p

You always want the backs of your phalanxes facing the enemy, the armor is thicker on the back.

Send any cavalry unit into a phalanx, they work the best to break'em up.

Always use cavalry against chariots, the chariots won't stand a chance.

Use cheap, very light infantry to defend key points in your defence, they hold up the best.

Train nothing but peasants!

'Nuff said. :D

My generals are adept at killing themselves. :(

I once had a general, while cresting a hill to attack a ballista, get hit with THE ONLY BOLT THEY FIRED.

I've lost so many generals during city stormings, too. They always seem to find that random spearman and charge at him while he's got his spear facing that way. BLAM! Impalement. My troops get demoralized, and chased out of the city by Eastern Infantry. Not sarcasm, only I could manage such an amazing feat.

Not true... its happened to me, sadly...

I kill more of my own generals then the enemy does. Hell, my own archers got my general.

Also, can u kill your Infantry if you move your horsemen through them, I think so cause that usually equals half my casualties...

*Be polite. When you assault a walled settlement, knock down only the door and have your units line up to enter one at a time. Your display of manners will help sway the citizens to liking you when you capture it.

But when assaulting larger cities (stone walls), just open the gates and stand there. You must be baptized by the boiling oil falling from above.

Also, have your elephants and chariots charge archers firing flaming volleys, it will startle the animals into a ferocious rage and trample the enemy.

You must also stand far from the stone walls of a city, those little things flying at you are flowers being tossed to you from the gracious citizens.
