Global Warming Thread #647: Supporters and Skeptics!

I'm skeptical of Global Warming, merely because of the political horseshat behind it. Every time someone calls for awareness of Global Warming they also clamor for quasi-socialism and land redistribution, etc.

Yeah, the issue is being abused a lot. But that does not change the fact that global warming is happening. Sadly, many of the proposed 'solutions' - aren't!

That seems like a really ******** reason to be skeptical of a scientific phenomenon.

Then again, it's pretty much the same thing with all libertarian skepticism towards any public health or environmental issue, though that's pretty much because there's no solution on the libertarians outside of denying its existence. Tragic really, because that's pretty much the only major downside towards the ideology, and I'd love to find some libertarian solutions towards public health and environmental issues, but that's kind of hard for an ideology that's against social engineering.

So if you want to be shown the evidence - easily done, but it can cost you an awful lot of time. It really depends on what you already know. If you want to, you can PM me and I will try to find you internet and print publications that give you a complete picture of the science. But I need to know where to start - do you know about the physical and chemical properties of gasses? Do you have a general idea of the Carbon Cycle? Ocean circulation? CO2-sinks? PM me!

Thanks for your elaborate answer, and for the offer. I´m afraid I just don´t have that sort of time though. However, it would be interesting to discuss the statements above some more, but I can´t do it now (I´m abroad and don´t have easy internet access). Will respond to your post sometime in februari.

take your time - earth is not going to roast that fast ;)

SWEET! Another global warming thread. Diving right in........

Spoiler :

CANNONBALL!!!!!!

SPLLAAAASSSSSHHHH

There have been many periods in Earth history that were warmer than today - if not the MWP, then maybe the last interglacial (125,000 years ago) or the Pliocene (three million years ago). Whether those variations were caused by solar forcing, the Earth's orbital wobbles or continental configurations, none of those causes apply today.
Not true.

There have been many warm periods, plus at least five major global extinction events, and the real truth is that we don't know what caused them all.

And I'll just stop there, because that one trumps everything else.
