In my last game I wanted to crush Sejong early game because... well, because I wanted. He was lagging behind because I expanded and left him without space and most AIs suck at going tall, so I decided to rush him with a couple of Composite Bowmen. He had Goddess of Protection as a pantheon belief, but I thought it was no big deal, so I marched my 7 CBs and 2 spearmen into Seoul, quickly dispatched his army of 4 Warriors and... Seoul just started to one-shot each of my CBs, what the hell! The city actually did 100 damage, and it had only 22 strength! How the hell am I supposed to go to war against that?? Its worse than Great Wall!

Did you have cover promotions on your CB's? Or maybe some catapults to reduce city defenses more?

If he went Oligarchy (Korea usually do) and also had Goddess of Protection, yeah, that is a pain in the ...

You were taking a 22 strength city with warriors (the cbows should be ok tho) and expecting no casualties. That he had the pantheon was just a good layer of icing. You should uptech your army or pillage his lands before mounting this assault. Furthermore, note that by taking goddess of protection that you forego taking any other pantheon, many of which are very strong e.g. desert folklore, MoG, DF or any of the other relevant terrain based ones. Also, note that you can also get this bonus by adopting his religion if you think it's so strong. Furthermore, he'll need to spend time investing in religious spread if he wants to keep the bonus in all his cities. Lastly, compare it to the city strength social policy, which anyone and everyone can get if they so choose, with no religious contingencies required.

Sorry, but you bring "a couple" of Composite Bowmen (strenght 11/7) against a strength 22 city, and you call the game broken because you get crushed?

Seriously, accept that he played better than you. Nothing wrong with the game here, in fact, good that you WERE NOT able to take that city with such a pittyful effort. He clearly focussed all his efforts on defense, and that SHOULD make it hard for you to take the city. If you really wanted, you should bring at least a handful of catapults, make sure to surround the city so you can bring them all into range at the same time, so that even when he starts taking them out - which he will - then you have enough to get many shots in. Build Barracks and in time Armories so that you can get Cover promotions on them.

There are times where you must accept that you can not just point at anything in the game that you want and then go tech it. In this case, you had to work for it, and should have accepted that even though you were wider than him, maybe you'd need a long-term plan before you were able to take him out.

Yeah, when his city was strength 22 already, you attacked him too late.

Strength 22 plus bonuses against strength 7 CBs. Obviously, they get killed in one hit.
