God's Obvious Design

Good job, Morten!

I'd hoped an Armada scenario would be made some day, and it looks great! :goodjob:

Thanx :)

In the process of shining up events, adjusting play balance and adding final bells and whistles... Any other play reports or comments that I should take into consideration?

Any ideas for a proper scenario title ? 'God's Obvious Design' might hint at the great irony of the enterprise of the Armada and the failure of it, but doesn't really sound very dramatic... and the short version (GOD) has an inappropriate ring to it...

In Nomine Domini ("In the name of the Lord", it could have the short form "Nomine" or "Domine")

I like
Armada! - God's Obvious Design with the short name "Armada"

Elaborate... not sure what you mean... you mean in the ingame texts?

Sorry, never got back on this. Yes, I mean in Game.txt.

[edit : obsolete links removed]

Feel free to download this last playtest version from the links above and post any comments you might have in this thread. I'm especially interested in playbalance issues, units that are too strong/weak, and details such as if the Spanish take Antwerp, and when, and if they land troops in England, when, how and where... if theres too much gold, if the scenario is too short, and of course, if there's any weird things going on, any lastminute errors that I haven't caught.

It has been a pain in the butt to make Spain play more offensively, and I'm afraid I only halfway succeeded. But its fun and definitely challenging playing most of the civs, and more often than not, the Spanish Armada actually manages to crowd the English Channel, which is quite threatening playing as the Dutch or the English.

The scenario clearly shows why it was so difficult for the Armada to rendezvous with Parma. Supposedly the most brilliant military commander of the time, in this scenario he is perhaps the dumbest, superceded by only the duke of Medina Sidonia, the Spanish naval commander. All this military power at their disposal, and yet not able to ferry those damn troops across the Channel...

One of those amazing games where the Spanish AI manages to sweep through the Netherlands as well as assemble a decent fleet against England....

Had a go of v1.4 with BKA last night... BKA took on the Spanish project, against the English played by myself.

The English fleet away at the Azores trying to seize control of the Treasure Fleet, the Spanish were able to invade Ireland early on (1584), and the next year Parma's troops penetrated the English fireship blockade and easily took Dover, while Spanish forces simultaneously penetrated the Island from the west and the north. Game ended December 1586 with a decisive Spanish win. The Dutch held Antwerp during the entire game, mostly due to the early Spanish decision to keep hostilities in the Netherlands at a minimum, with England the prime target.

Note the massive uprising of a Walesian cult, coinciding with the Spanish invasion
