going absolutely nuts [Alien Crossfire refuses to start]

I am officially going nuts

I have installed all the patches. I have made changes to the ini file *although to be honest that was scraping the bottom of the barrel*

The basic point here is that whenever I attempt to run terranx.exe i get the splash screen and then a message is displayed : Please insert correct cd rom etc etc.

Odd thing is I do have an image mounted (made from a legit copy of the game for back-up purposes rest assured) and I have used that image in the same drive to install and run the program.

Classic AC runs without a hitch.

I have spent a week searching for a no-cd crack but either the sites/pages dont exist or in the case of http://www.megagames.com/cracks/html/c30150_0.htm when I click on the download link all I get is a refresh of the page - tried in firefox and internet explorer.

Does anyone have access to the no-cd crack?

I'm having the same problem. I got the SoldOut Software version of Alpha Centauri and Alien Crossfire. Everything's fine if I just install and play Alpha, but if I also install Alien - it messes up both of the games.

ive been able to play alpha centauri

what i did was to have two separate installations - one that has just AC (that has all the patches) and the other one that has Alien Crossfire + AC.

After applying all the patches like you I found that neither game would work. I copied the terran.exe from the "just AC" installation into the Crossfire + AC folder and AC works fine.

for me its only Crossfire that is not working - and that is only because it seems to refuse to read my iso image as the actual CD

edit:

everything is now working. after downloading a no-cd crack and turning off UAC, Alien Crossfire now works
