I'm curious about what YOU prioritize during your civilizations Golden Age?

Do you build Wonders, units, city imps, settlers, or something else?

Any hints/tips/strategies you'd care to share with us? :)

If there is not an urgent need for units or settlers I priorize(in this row) great wonders, small wonders and city improvments. So i try to use the production bonus to get an advantage in wonder race or at least "invest" it in something which pays economically after the golden age ends.

If I get the Golden Age during the Ancient Era, I always build Spearmen first, so that every city is protected by 1 Spearman and 1 Warrior. I'm always at peace with my neighbours during the Ancient Era, so most of my cities are normally just protected by a lone warrior.

Once I've got enough military units, I immediately build Temples, Libraries and Marketplaces in all cities (except for my best production cities, where I build Wonders).

Furthermore, during the Golden Age, I watch the Tech slider every single turn, to make sure I don't waste any commerce.

Actually I don't prioritise anything just carry on making whatever seems most necessary at the time but then I'm not addicted to Wonders ;)

I usually just continue building everything normally. I like to have my capital building wonders all the time unless there are none available, in which case, I build city imps. The GA is good for speeding up those wonders and in other cities, bulking up your military to at least make the AI think twice before attacking you. That's my 2 cents' worth...

Well, usuallly whenever I get a GA, it is usually as a result of a victory in a war. So I just continue building military untis.

Depends when I get my GA.

If I get it early I use it for city improvements in peace, military units if I am at war.

If I get it late in the game it usually means I am in builder mode so I will use it for research, city improvements.

I don't really use it for wonders.

i suggest building wonders 2 the max. my prime targets are colosus adams and pyrimids because they carry economic benifiets after GA secondary is science inhancing wonders

Only military units if in war. I avoid wars like a plague during GA.

I may continue with a GW, but usually focus on improvements that offer long term benefits. Prime candidates are:
-- marketplaces
-- temples [if needed]
-- cathedrals [ if needed]
-- aquaducts
-- factories
-- power plants
-- hospitals [ only if needed ]

Barracks if I know a war is coming and I don't have barracks yet in all cities.

I know some of list are late improvements, but my GA is often late.

The Golden Age is a good time to build the Forbidden Palace, and to race to Republic or Monarchy if you still need to.
The single one thing that you typically DON'T need in the GA is defence.

Golden ages are best to concentrate internally, making your cities a lot better. Each one of your cities produces more, so it would be a better time to make your empire great (or greater than it already is)

Depends on when I get it. I either rush improvements or wonders or start to build up my military for a war post GA.

i like to use it to field my offensive army, seeing how the GA gives one a closer production rate to the AI's, making warring easier

I play as America, Emperor level. Usally don't rush to get wonders and hardly play out games to modern. Though sometimes I get Copercoins Obeservitory, then Hoover, so I can mass an army of tanks.

do golden ages boost your military units....
as in make them win more battle, cos many places "golden age" was kinda just a great general or something.

I like to have my Golden Ages right as I discover Chivalry. Since I do a great deal of my warring during the Ancient and Middle Ages. The extra sheilds come at a crucial time when Knights are relatively expensive, but Swordsman are too weak to do much damage. So, I use it to feild an army of knights and take over my continent. If my war is over and i still have some time left, then i will build some city imps or start a wonder.

Even though I consider myself a warmonger, I detest using my GA to speed up unit production. I try to make the effect last past the 20 turns, so to speak, by getting improvements, especially scientific and commercial ones, in those cities where they'll be useful in the future, but are too costly to build now without a GA. Depending on the available wonders when it hits, I'll keep a city or two on those, too, but I prefer conquering wonders. ;)

I usually take out a big loan from the AIs to rush markets in most of my core cities before I trigger the Golden Age. Then I use my Golden Age to build military units. Of course, a little chunk of the extra gold bonus collecting from the markets during the Golden Age will be used to pay back the loan plus its interest. A lot of time, the AIs may decide to declare war and refuse to accept my payments in the process. In this case, I don't have to pay back the remaining balance of the loan.
