GoobNES01: Fallout [Third Thread]

Yes, but it was due to Russia, Putin, actually leading Russia out of the bad old Soviet days that made East Germany be allowed to unite with West Germany, and then along comes Droeger, and the rest is history. Ironically, the Greater Deutsche Republic is thanks in part to Mr. Putin, wherever he is, skulking around somewhere in the USA, if Stormy is to be believed, exiled as a hated Liberal.

Don't forget who liberated Germany from Communism ;) (or at least Russian puppetry)

Yeah Panda, I know. IRL, Putin is the Russian Leader who, acording to our biased Weastern News, is an evil Dictator who stays in power by autocratic elections. If you further believe our Western News Media, you might think that Putin IRL has no respect for the Russian Constitution and Democracy in General.

Or is that my cynicism cropping up again?

Anyway, will start Update when I drag this old carcass of mine home after work today.

Well, you can't deny that Putin is slowly moving Russia towards authoritarianism. He got voted special executive powers. And you know what follows special executive powers...

Galactic empire.

Correction: Putin IRL never got any special executive powers, dont know where that myth started.

Apointing governors? Is that what you are refering to? There was a law that allowed the president to apoint the governors of the regions with the concent of the local legislature. Makes sence to me as the politics of the region should be influenced both by the people of the region and by the goals of the national government.

It's more puppet of the national government, since it is much less democratic than people voting directly for their governors.

People vote directly for the local legislature which has to aprove the governor...so personally I dont see how its any less democratic. And it sure cuts down on governors who were buisness man and just bought the position, didnt care about the people, etc. Or those who were popular comedians and were elected based on popularity with no political background at all.

Well, my 5 day stretch of work got turned into a 7 day stretch, and might be a 9 day stretch, so Update plans have been shelved until my work schedule gets back to some degree of normality.

I'll get it done ASAP, as always.

So it's bad when people are elected by popular (majority) of the vote? Businessmen buying positions is bad, but why wouldn't they just buy it from Putin or from the local legislatures?

Yes, in Russia it is so happens that people being elected by a popular vote is bad. Regions have a lot of power, much more than the states do in the USA, and elections for governor were generally much underfunded. In Yeltsin times in Siberia elections were only held in major cities, no one bothered to ask people in the countryside whom they wanted. We had some comedians, movies starts, music players be governors, but much more often we had very corrupt buinessmen who used the post to get money, steal it from the people basically, and then leave the country. Mr. Abramovich for example. In the current situation these people are responsible to the President, and the President is indeed elected by a popular vote, much easier to keep track of them that way.

I work at a small local Retail Store, but the problem is that the top managers who do schedules can never seem to figure things out, so usually someone is left working long stretches, and that person is usually me, since I am the only one who doesn't really care. Incompetance runs deep there, yet somehow they seem to make the whole joint run.

Too tired to do the Update again tonight, perchance tomorrow.

Suuuure Goober.

You're too tired because you worked at a retail store for too long...

...more like flew to Venezuela, killed Hugo Chavez, had wild James-Bond-esque sex parties and then came back, too tired to do the update...

No, that was me.

This isn't dead, but I now have family coming to visit, and I don't have enough time to Update because I am visiting with them.

As always, I'll do it when I can.
