I really like to play against random civs, but it would be nice if there could be an option to balance random civs on evil/neutral/good during the random civ chooser.

I like to roleplay my civs. If I choose a good civ, then I want to play like a good civ. I've had a few games where after hours of playing and contacting everyone that every civ in the world was either good, or adopted a good religion. It's really a huge letdown to play as Bannor and realize that the armageddon counter is going to stay pegged at zero, unless you adopt Ashen Veil.

For the whole good/evil/neutral thing to work, you really need them all.

It's even more of an odity when you group the AI players into teams and the random team generator puts the Bannor and the Calabim together. It would be nice if there was a "Random Good" or "Random Evil" player selection when setting up a custom game.

that's been suggested before... and didn't go in!

It'd be a fun addition.

Balanced Alignments would be a nice option if it was at all practical.

I think I remember hearing that the random leader selection happens before any SDK or Python calls are made, so there is no way to control it (at least no way without a MAJOR effort). I feel your pain though, it feels like a waste of a good game when you have finally met everyone in the world and they are all the same alignment as you.

Yeah, and I think that variety is desirable. My most fun game was as Sheaim, everyone (well, almost, one or two good civs were destroyed early) was evil, or neutral with evil religion, so the epic battle of good vs. evil was replaced by battle of Radical Evil vs. Moderate Evil. Sheaim (me), Infernals, Orcs, Sidar, who wanted to destroy the world were on one side, opposed by Calabim, Balseraphs, Svaltarfarl, Hippus, who tried to stop the doom and only wanted to enslave the world, united under OO.

Amongst memorable moments were when Moderate Evil forces took most of Orcish land, and Orc suddenly realized that destruction of the world ain't all that in their interests. And when I somehow got Order founding tech and a missionary with it. He preached the third way, that there could be good, and wanted to spread that faith in my lands. Unfortunately he was sacrificed at the Demon's Altar  And when I managed to persuade Calabim that there is place for Vampires even in Hell (Well they are immortal so they will never have to give their souls), convert them to AV and after that game was over fairly quick...
