Are any civs or leaders by themselves weak? Are some too good?

Just finished Amina with Khmer, Songhai, and Buganda. Just a terrible game all around. It's probably too soon to say this leader is weak, but it's my worst game by far. I really struggled with tech/culture rate.

I totally forgot about the 2 Friedrichs, their bonuses sound so bad that I have not even bothered to try them. Investing lots of production to get 1 infantry unit sounds really bad. The worst thing about increased command radius is that the experience radius stays the same.

That seems like a huge oversight and glitch.

Idm the experience radius being the same, the increased command radius is powerful enough as is imo. Just needs to be communicated somewhere that the xp radius is independent of the command radius.

Agreed. The command radius is already one of the better final nodes (2nd best after Order, probably). It doesn't need further buffing, but a better tooltip would be welcome.

Currently in the midst of a Greece into Bulgaria playthrough as Lafayette. Bulgaria is so much fun. I started the Exploration Age with two double digit level commanders (Age of Heroes IP buff plus Stategoi in the Ancient Era) and have been wreaking havoc on the home continent, pillaging everything. We're coming up on about 50% of the era and Trung just disbanded an IP I had put a ton of influence into, so the Bulgarians are gonna hop on some ships and go torch the Distant Lands...

Doing a game as Frederick culture one and I can't quite figure out why...but he sucks. On paper, he seems good. Yet he just isn't.

Infantry for most civs are the weakest combat units, so getting them free isn't hugely impactful, and his mechanic helps you win more when you are already winning rather than helping you actually get ahead.

But, good news for Freidrich - I suspect Bolivar has taken his "weakest leader" title!

I haven't tried him cuz I honestly don't like conquering that much, but to me he sounds significantly better than the 2 Freds on paper. Why do you think Simon is worse?

It's actually funny how well Augustus works with Carthage. Being able to buy out culture buildings as Carthage is such a game changer that it feels weird playing without the ability to do so. Like, I don't even bother to play Carthage without playing Augustus because the gameplay experience becomes so monotonous. Xerxes is the other leader that works fairly well with Carthage, but it is a super finnicky culture when it comes to leader picks in my experience. I think bringing back the change capital project from Civ 6 could make the Carthaginians more interesting.

The purchasing in conquered/unrest settlements is ok, but nothing exceptional. His best ability is +1 War support, but honestly, "We have Harriet Tubman at home" is the phrase which comes to mind.

Trung is IMO the weakest leader. She is basically unusable. The only use I can see is playing Rome. 3lvl commander = free settlement on discipline. Otherwise hardly any use

See, no Age of Heroes presented as an option. Did Firaxis remove it?
AI has taken it first. Once chosen by someone, not available to others. (I guess, because sometimes I am left with even 2 options, while 3 other CS of that type are befriended by others)

You grow to level 3 commander on independents. In single player Trung is only for completing those stupid challanges like making full trees of commanders. i picked her because in single her only advantage is playing Rome, when you can combine cheaper comanders with basically one free early settlement. A leader working basically with only one civ is a no-go for me.

Sometimes work with Persia as well, but both Rome and Persia are on the bottom of antuique civ tier list, only Khmer are worse

Wait, really, this is supposed to be unique, that only one person can claim a bonus?
