All right, this is pretty weird -- When I go to download an RTF file from google docs, it crashes.

I noticed it seems to crashes if it's not the first thing you do in your browser. Like if you visit a few sites beforehand and then go in and try to download, it'll crash. I'm not sure if it's a Firefox or GoogleDoc bug.

I do have Google Gears so I can access it offline -- not that I really need it, though. Only for when the internet is being fussy.

Anybody have a clue?

p.s. Firefox 3.03 under Windows XP Home SP2

All right. But it happens randomly, so it may be just a fluke if something happens. I'll edit this in a few minutes.

EDIT: I tested 5 times. No crash. I also went to various different webpages in between tests.

Ive been getting random crashes and hangups on Firefox lately. Went and wiped my firefox install ( backed up my bookmarks and thats it) and completely reinstalled. So far nothing.

If you have a really old install of FF and its been updated a lot, it might just be screwy. Some of the extensions probly need a clean reinstall too.

I did try in IE (which I LOATHE) so it's definately a Firefox problem.
My version is 3.03.

Here is the build: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092417 Firefox/3.0.3 ImageShackToolbar/5.0.0 ID:2008092417
(I only did that cos I have an addon that fills it in for you and I wanted to try it!)

Also tried safe mode. (No crashes)

I can live with the crashes (especially if its to avoid IE) -- it's just annoying.

It seems almost 100% certain that the issue relates to an extension you have installed. The most obvious culprit would be some form of download manager, followed by a privacy protector/ad blocker.

I would turn on your extensions one at a time to determine which one is causing the problem. Once you have found it check to see if any updates are available on the author's website that fix the problem, else try doing a clean reinstall of it. If push comes to shove you might have to contact the extension's author for technical support or live without it/disable it when using Google Docs/install an alternative.

You might find the article Problematic Extensions useful.

thank you. i will try it.

Firebug is an extension which has a tendancy to cause problems on google sites.

It hasn't been crashing lately, and a few addons were updated. Perhaps it was fixed?
