Gorgo culture rush questions.

I think I'm missing something.

How do you rush culture?

When do you build acropoli?

I find that it's hard enough to get even 4 cities before the AI just take everything. And then commercial hubs and industrial centers. A small army.... just seems like you can't do anything until factories.

What am I missing?

(I usually play prince, small, continents)

Gorgo is a culture beast, you build lots of units and kill everything in sight as each death provides half the units strength in culture. The earlier you kill the faster you rush, beeline acropolis not government, not craftsmanship, straight to acropolis. They are half price so you prod requirement is low.

You should now be in a situation where you are nearing your first great person, your archers are at the end of their run and hopefully got you enough cities to now push gold and science... or if safe keep pushing culture. Regardless if you look at Domestic tourism you will be very strong and definitely the first to museums unless on deity.

Thanks, I followed your advice. I just built settlers, and slingers, and then 2 hoplites, built acropoli once they became available, and during that used my army to just wipe out Scythia and Poland. I think i may have delayed contact with the other continent to my detriment, but I won around turn 300.

I won with just from artifacts and great artists, writers, and musicians. I also got a LOT more than I needed, (I think India got maybe 4 great people while I just dominated that).

District wise, harbors, 2 factories, and just acropoli. No campuses, and the only holy sites were from conquered capitols.

Anything I should change if I go from Prince to a higher difficulty?

3 Initial cities were founded, then I took 2 from Scythia, 2 from Poland, 1 via captured settler that had to resettle a city my city-state ally burned to the ground. Then maybe 2 more to fill in gaps, though TBH only 4 cities were functional even with factories and harbors. I had them build needful stuff the rest were just assigned to cultural projects once they had the museum or art building in place.

Not convinced art museums are good value, I just use great artists to scout
You may have expanded a bit much, too much expansion slows down victory.
You may have pushed culture too hard too long, if your great writers cannot win you the game early at some stage you want to try and move to science to get to computers faster as well as seaside resorts
I tend to build campus not factories

Not sure what you meant here. You would put the artists in the museums, right? Maybe I am missing something

Art slots also come with wonders, unlike artifact slots. Also, it's much easier to theme an archaeological museum, so you could be better off even just ignoring Great Artists (like, using them as scouts and such), concentrating on digging ruins instead. That'll give you more tourism faster.

I'm not sure if that's what Victoria meant to say there though.

No for some reason I missed 2 words... I have added them in now, I use great artists to scout
A themed and carded art museum is worth 18 tourism
A themed and carded archaeological museum is worth 27 tourism

... so bang on @Rosty K

Ahh thanks.
I think I want to try this Gorgo strategy. I need a break from all the war games

I like war gamey but they get samey.
My favourite currently is the resort rush because it is a science rush so you are strong militarily but aiming to convert those coasts. With Gorgo it's a complimentary strategy because of the natural culture gained at the start.

So, I built Archaeological Museums until I couldn't safely get artifacts. It just seemed faster to build a few art museums to let my artists do something, Have you tried Jesuit Education + Cathedrals?

I really enjoy the hill starting bias with Greece for Acropolis and (almost) guaranteed production capital.
If the Acropolis had extra bonuses (other than +2 culture adjacency to city center), Greece could really shine.

I don't want to start a new thread so I'll ask here.
What Tourism Victory path would you consider to be faster: a Theater Square + Great Person (culture) or Seaside Resort + Computers (Science) focus with Greece

I realize a combination of culture/science focuses will be the best option, but I'd like your opinions.

Cathedrals are +2 tourism with a piece of art. It is the effort for the return that gets me
The whole religion thing being tacked onto the front of you game and the civic push at the bottom of the tree I struggle with also. Yes you can win but if just seems slower.

What Tourism Victory path would you consider to be faster
Theatre squares

I'm playing as Gorgo right now. The only real problem seems to be lack of AI military units. But alternating who I'm at war with helps a lot. I just found a nice size island full of barbarians... That's gonna be some culture feast :)

I am still amazed with just how strong a combination of Eiffel and cristo is, just finishing a Gorgo and I had 850 tourism with Eiffel already got, got cristo and bang it want up to 1100 tourism, if you include computers in the calculation each resort is worth around 50 tourism.

With those numbers I'd normally have won already. Maybe I should raise my difficulty  What difficulty is that?

Deity although you can need those numbers with a culture runaway at lower levels.. I have played against a Qin with 350'culture per turn at emperor. Once at those numbers it normally does not take long but things like computers and cristo and americas bonus can really speed things up.
