Not to be a noob... which I am... But what is the GSR?

global speed rating.

Fastest finishers for each type of victory condition are awarded 100. Other finishers are awarded a speed rating below 100 based on the number of turns they finished behind the fastest finisher in their victory type.

Thanks for the list obormot!

A first post for a first Medal.

Civ addict from the beginning (Civ1, 15 years ago), I discovered GOTM with Civ4 last November. Today, my only Civ4 completed games -but one- are the GOTMs !

I want to say thank you for this great site : I spent (too) many hours reading strategy articles, discussions, spoilers, comments and I was impressed by the overall quality of them. I will express my special thanks in the GOTM5 final spoiler (the first too ...)

For this game, as pnp_dredd (congratulations ;) , by the way) pointed out, few people went for a milked victory. I guessed it and decided to have a try all the more since military aspects were not a concern at this level.

Special congratulations to Yurian :crazyeye: for this uncredible fastest finish. You were not unkown for me since you have won Diplomacy award in GOTM1 (I remember well as I had second diplomacy fastest finish ...).

This leads me to a question about scoring. It is obvious that current formula gives a huge advantage to domination/conquest with milking. The DaveMcW's Game Speed Rating and Combined Rating offer interesting alternatives, but what are their official status ?

Hmmmmm??

For GOTM5, Redbad and I both finished culture victories faster than Xavier's Crown? Am I missing something on how this is calculated?

Thanks for catching that bug. :) I'll update my post.

I'd like to second what EEO said. Been playing Civ since Civ1, years ago, but didn't discover this site until Civ4. Before Civ-Fanatics, I struggled on Noble, but right now I'm just finishing up my very first Monarch game (and winning). Thanks to everyone her at CivFanatics, especially the GOTM here.
