GOTM 05 Results & Congratulations

[ainwood]

The warlord difficulty and the resource-rich great plains map made for an easier game than we've had of late, and this was refelcted in the results, with more submissions, and 98% of submissions being victories.

We had a new winner this month, with pnp_dredd grabbing the gold with a domination victory. Second and third places were also domination victories, going to EEO and hendrickszoon respectively.

I believe I know the goal of A'AbarachAmadan for the actual game. 5 out of 5 is more than impressive.

But there is also another more than impressive result: The Conquest Victory at 1900BC of Yurian.

Now that I've got a Domination win, I'll start with the other vicotry conditions and fast finishes.


Thanks to all the GOTM staff for all their effort - it's really appreciated. I was staff for the Civ3 Tourney, so I have some idea how much work it is.

1900BC had to be all warriors and chariots. Knock out that england, france, and china with warriors and then sweep them thru to the NE to take out saladin and the others. Maybe upgrade to axes if you can get a captured city for upgrades.

Interesting results. I am quite happy with being 115.
Now I see, that with scoring system in Civ4 developing your civ is by far more valuable in points than an ultra early victory.
No, I don't talk about milking, just about growing your civ slowly and thus keep research up high and build infrastructure.
I know, I am not the first one to recognize this but now I haveseen it in action.
The 1900 BC conquest has just slightly more points than me (although this game is surely much more impressive).

I agree with Lexad here, I wouldn't see any harm in A'AbarachAmadan and Obormot both getting an award. I don't think it would lessen the prestige of the award for two people to get it.

The fastest finishes are awarded purely for speed in my book, with score not factoring in at all. Since they tied on speed I think they both deserve scrolls. Just my 2 cents.

Impressive.

His write-up of the game is on the last page of the first spoiler thread. It was basically a perfect storm. He popped 4 Settlers, Bronze Working and Horseback Riding from huts and crushed everyone with Horse Archers.
