I just uploaded the GOTM#1 results to the server. You can view them at http://www.civfanatics.com/civ2gotm.shtml

Good job, Matrix! You have exceeded my expectations...

Maybe it should say whether it was by conquest or spaceship?

maybe for next month...

Hmm I thought that there would be three different lists, one with the GotM score and one with the score and one with the speed. I don't really care, but if there where three different lists and 3x the medals then more people would be able to compete on different levels.
And I'm not just saying this because it would give me two gold medals, since I'm pretty sure that that won't happen in the future. Now everybody know what to do and how to do it, the only question is whether to go for the speed victory, the high score or the GotM score.
Right now the only thing that counts is the GotM score!!!

The idea was to make an independent ranking for people with the highest scores or the fastest games. Maybe I won't give medals, but something else (Thunderfall has provided me with more pictures
wink.gif
), to make it more clear that these rewards are independent. But this isn't done yet. And I think what Smash ment, was just to mention how someone ended. And come to think of it, it might just be an important aspect to mention. Just for the stats ofcourse, but that is important too to me

.

B.t.w.: Congratulations, shadowdale! You won and you deserved it. I just hope you save some gold medals for other people too...

I did something else funny and I don't thing I'll do this every month: these are the average maps of the year 1 AD:

and of the year 1000 AD:

You can see that the English are discovered quite fast and the the further you go on your own island, the less people have discovered it.

This is my 100th post!!! I'm a phalanx! I'm a phalanx! I'm a phalanx!
Keep rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin', come on!
Keep rollin', rollin', rollin', rollin', yeah!

Matrix,

I just sent in a submission...hopefully you can add it to your list. I finished very late last night, so I didn't send the files until this AM. Please spare my humble and peaceful civilization!

How the heck did you do that...That is very cool

.

A question about the city-dots... Does that show where all the cities were located on the submissions? Many of them ended up almost exactly where they were in my game, including the AI ones. I thought there would be much more randomness.

Any other wisdom you have found?

Congratulations to the winners!
Congratulations to Matrix for organising the scoring!
Well done all who took part and submitted their games!
(Now where are all the others

There is one thing that made me wonder about the GotM list!! Where there really only 14 persons who played it???
I would have thought that there would be 20-40 people who had played the map!!!
Maybe it was because it came in the middle of the month and the rules where not really clear!!! And it was an Emperor level map, I'm sure that we shall see more people this time since we went down one level!!!

I'm glad you're all satisfied . And I hope that this time there will be more players. Now that it's nothing more than fill-in-the-blanks (or filling-the-blanks?) of the statistics, it'll all go faster as well. And now I'm going to add Tim, even if he's too late. But I'm afraid that's an exception and next time when the results are posted, the GOTM is really closed!

B.t.w.: two sent games weren't finished, because of a lack of time (they also sent in too late). I'm afraid I can't accept these, however. I'm really really sorry, but when you just retire, it's just not fair. Either you win, you lose, or you reach 2020AD, but in the GOTM it would be wrong to place people who just did not finish in the ranking.

Yes I wondered(conquest/space) from a statistical point of view.I am a sucker for stats so the more the merrier I say.

Not true. The rules state that you can retire and I would like to be in the rankings even though I didn't do very well. Also, I sent mine in yesterday which was 28 February, meaning that it wasn't late. Checking my Outlook Express: I sent it 28 February 2001, 10:56 PM EST. I guess I could have played for an hour more
smile.gif

Also, if you are going to have a cut off time, I believe it should be the first day of the next month, meaning: Febs GotM should have to be sent in by 01 March 15:59PM in the last time zone. This would only be fair. This would allow every one to have the same amount of daylight hours to play the game.

I think the GOTM should be due 2 or 3 days before the end of the month. This would give Matrix a few days to compile all the data and do more cool things with the stats. Like the March GOTM should be due on the 28th.

PaleHorse:

By retire, I'm sure it meant get to the year 2020AD. Not actually press the retire button.

Alright. You did send it on time, and since this isn't for the Hall of Fame anyway...

But for the GOTM score, I'll have to use a finishing date of 2020 AD, since you don't know when you would have finished. The same counts for LRY. The rule should state that you can't retire before 2020 AD; that wouldn't make sense. Imagine you got quite a high score in an early state, so you could think: Hey, if I retire now, my GOTM would be (e.g.) 65. That wouldn't be fair! Well, in your case, PaleHorse, it doesn't matter. But in LRY's case, well, that's just the best example I can give. But anyway, you got me convinced in the first place...
