Ok guys anyone played allready post 1 AD?

I have and so far is very interesting.I am ahead on the tech race but the others are nearby.Trying to save as much caravans for my Woman sufferage. Also don`t prepare for early qonquest you should allready know why :P

SPOILER PRE 1 AD DON`T READ AS IT MAY SQUE YOUR GAME BY QUITE A BIT!

Spoiler :
We are on a relativly small island land mass worth 6 or so Citys if you place them well. There are few heavy gold/science luxuries with 2 pottentialy moster production citys. The other civs as far as I am aware are spread through quite large land masses so early qonuesting will be very tough to pull. That is why I am considering to wait for alpine/cavalery + Women Sufferage and Republic(to not fall behind badly on the tech race) and steamroll some mainland citys.

What is wrong with early conquest?

By the way I have just completed this GOTM. Here is a peice of information from my game that could change perceptions if known too early.

Spoiler :
In my game the Egyptians destroyed the Romans in 3450 BC.

I'm at about 200BC, but have found all the AI and gotten their maps. I haven't peeked into the spoiler-in-spoiler windows yet, but can't imagine any info that would change my strategy at this point.

My WoW choice was LH, because I wanted contact asap; this decision is debatable, but seems OK. I'm still deciding between EC [asap, hoping for Green], or to build up a little for more GOTM points. That seems more in the spirit of this gotm, since you really don't need many WoWs for EC. I guess I have about 25 small cities now, not quite ready for Republic, or Big Trade. Have a partial ship chain from Babylon to Rome.

Hello Everyone !! Have not play CivII for a LONG time, found the link to the 116 game a couple of days ago, felt a bit rusty...but this was the perfect game to get back !!

Finished in less than 3 hours...built Sun Tzu....by then had Monotheism, so built about 20 veteran crusaders and 15 triremes. Used some Silk , Gems and Copper carvanas to trade with Thebes and other Egyptian cities, Hides with the French...got close to 700 on gold , rushed all my Veteran Crusaders and Triremes.
Never built anything but a few selected Caravans, Triremes, Crusaders or Settlers, no reason to built any Temples or any infrastructure...much less change from Monarchy.
Lost two units to the Barbarians.
Conquered Egyptians , mainly with Diplomats. French were a lot easier.
Thebes and Paris had both a wonder, so I ended with three.
Wish it was a longer game....would love to bring back Purple and made it more fun..but at Prince level was too easy. Thanks for the game I REALLY enjoyed it!

- Babylon Built at 86.34
3500 BC- Egyptians destroy Romans -
1400 BC- 4 Cities- French Located on NW of our continent- Babylon building Wonder ( Pyramids ??) debating what it will be.

1 AD- Thebes been located several turn earlier, Caravans of Silk and Gems delivered ( 300 gold). Heliopolis also located, Hides Caravans also sent to Paris.
Sun Tzu Built several turn earlier - 12 cities, all working on Triremes, and Crusaders-
6 Triremes and 7 Crusaders active OR being built alltogether. Gold 684

200 AD- and Beyond - Thebes ( Pyramids ) , Heliopolis, Elephantine, and Memphis conquered. Second Armada sent to towards the French.
Alexandria Pi Ramses and Rome conquered. Egyptians destroyed.
Paris ( Hanging Gardens ) Conquered. Lyons , Orleans and Marseille conquered by diplomats.
Tours conquered- Game over.

Welcome back Urawashi. For some reason, I decided to build a fairly large civ under Republic rather than go for EC [I may need some way to kill time over the holidays?]. It's still only about 60AD, and I could probably attack within a few turns if necessary, but so far it is enjoyable to trade and build and go on. This is probably not the best GOTM for that style of play, since there can be no more WoWs, so not many mileposts, but maybe I'll get to Democracy before the end.

I have started to play and have played till +120. In my game, as in haleewud's and URUWASHI's, Egyptians destroyed Romans early on.

I built Pyramids for my only wonder and sooner than I expected to. The abundance of plains compared to grassland meant many of my early cities could not produce one settler after another and with no need for troops to maintain order at prince level the only other thing to build were caravans.

I discovered French early on and have significant trade going with all their 3 cities. Discovering Egyptians took a lot longer due to their continent being number 1. I discovered them after year +1. By then they had 7 cities, six of which I have not discovered yet.

Neither of my rivals were willing to exchange maps even when I took them to Enthusiastic (and yes they did have the mapmaking tech). I know Peaster said he got maps out of the rivals. Has anyone else experienced this lack of interest in map exchange?

I have just built a barracks and have another on the way. I have 3 crusaders and will soon start warfare.

I also had this experience. For the French it didn't matter very much since I encountered them quite early. But for the Egyptians, it might have been nice to get their map.

I played till +270 last night. Egyptians finally agreed to a map exchange and it was good that they did, since I still had not managed to find any of their other cities. French just got wiped out. I am about to ship my forces to Egypt. Not having experience playing at this level (I typically play emperor) I over prepared for war: every French city, including Paris, had a single defender.

I got done before +500. Last Egyptian cities were far away and no doubt the outcome of an advanced tribe. They were bribed away.

No AIs destroyed in my game, but my AI are pretty lame, about 3 cities each, no WoWs, no sneaks. I've had some trouble with barbs though. I am having a similar experience with production - nothing much to build but vans. The "One Wonder" rule presented an interesting dilemna at first, but it hasn't lead to very interesting play later on.

I can't remember if I had any problems, but my routine is to gift them all the way to Worshipful, if necessary, to get their maps. Sometimes they agree at Cordial, and sometimes not until W'ful. No clear pattern.

Regarding cities, yes, I probably have 15 or so on the starting isle. But the terrain is poor, so I started moving off-isle asap. I probably have about 20 cities on other isles now. I'm at about 160AD, playing a few minutes now and then just for fun, with no clear plan, just trading mostly. Republic-growth seems pretty slow without WoWs for celebration, so I may just conquer soon and go on to gotm 117.

My French built only 3 cities. But Egyptians were pretty busy and had 7 cities at their height. They even built a city when they were capital-less and penniless and down to one city. They also built the only other wonder in the game, Hanging Gardens. Both them and French were building a WOW in their capital that was aborted when I attacked. In contrast, I had very little trouble with barbs.

I have almost always managed to get maps at Cordial and this game was truly the exception.

I did not even bother with Republic. Celebration in Republic without Michelangelo's is very limited at best. Knowing I am going to play a war game I stayed in Monarchy and switched to a celebrating Monarchy for extra arrows when my treasury was full and Monotheism already discovered. I traded a great deal more than usual because of the one wonder rule till the very end.

I finished up approx +200. This was a fairly simple relaxing game, in which I didn't try anything very ambitious. Switching to Republic for growth and easy trade was OK, and I made 2 size 10 cities, etc.
But it might've been more consistent to build HG or Mike's with it.

The designer's continent 1 trick threw me off enough that I built LH "just in case". It helped speed my game, but it wasn't really needed, and probably not the best choice.

I just started and finished my game. I decided to build LH and go for conquest because there is not much time left.

I got Map Making from an hut and contacted the French early and destroyed them in 750 bc.

I got some trouble finding the other civs. The romans took all but 1 city from the Egypts at the time I met them (350bc). I got LH just a few turns after that and made a shipchain to the last island. Just before starting conquering the romans build Pyramids.

Conquest was easy with a lot of crusaders and elephants. Victory at 140ad.
