GOTM 13 Results & Congratulations

In GOTM, the top award went to Cactus Pete by a very wide margin. His 1523 AD domination victory (not the fastest, however) had a very strong basis, giving him an impressive 170,000+ points. This contrasts with the second place entry by Jove which was also a domination victory with a similar number of turns, but scored only 112,000 points (although it was again a clear margin ahead of third place). Third place went to EEO, who came very close to cracking the 100k mark.

What I love about this game is how much room for improvement there is!

I feel reasonably good about my game in this GOTM. But the quality gap between my effort, and, say, Jesusin's, almost 300 years faster and 20,000 points higher, cannot be overstated. So much to learn, so much to learn.

Congratulations to the leader board , and to Cactus Pete's computer, which spent a looong looong time on this game.

Tough luck, suxxor - j/k, nm, I still luv u. Rather unexpected with all the blunders I made: going for Astronomy through GS, first traded for Meditation and unlocked Philo - had to take it therefore with GS - and then waiting for next GS to lightbulb the rest for pre-researched Astro researched CS and unlocked Paperrrrr-Edu-Press :B ... moron. Lost no less than 30 turns on it, I think. So there's way for improvement.

Congrats to the winners, and to jesusuin the speed monster (I'm 4th in speed now) CactusPete and Lawrence are pretty fast too. Thanx to the organizers, they made me love Conquistadors - have no played Spain before, didn't appreciate their awesomeness.

Maybe it's time to think of Eptathlon...

Special mention to Alraun, who deprived me from getting my first award ever! Well, I can always tell myself I got a "silver medal for fastest diplo".

Last but not least: @ Jesusin & Lexad: cumulative speed rankings is the one I respect most, good job! But beware of the #9 player in that ranking, he could be a threat!

I decided a couple of months ago to stop playing on challenger coz the couple of GOTM's in which I did, hardly anyone else did, and it was pretty obvious to me that playing on challenger had hurt my placing.

It hurts, I tried. Not very attractive but I'll try to play gotm 15 "normally" without extra units.

Your congratualations are greatly appreciated. While much of my computer time spent on the game was dead time wherein RL events intervened, I did put a great deal of time into the game . . . fun time!

I don't think you can play the games with the other version (the SGOTMs have different start files).

What I meant is that by not playing the WOTMs (and that Hendrickszoon hasn't been playing), you've allowed me to sneak ahead of you in the rankings. And it's purely because I've been submitting every game. I like to think of it as an award for sticking to it.

Of course, I'm now very concerned with GOTM15 given that I've played some deity practice games that didn't end well. Not sure what a bad loss will do to me.
