Yay !! my first submition, and the highest scoring time vicotory... :D :D

But maybe there's a reason for that :-/ ......

Hopefully the wotm8 will be a bit of a better score.

Thanks very much to the admins for another enjoyable game. Congrats to the winners, especially to Erkon and Balbes, who did it despite the difficult start. I'm really blown away by Balbes just-missed-the-18th-century spaceship launch. That's awfully fast!

EEO and LowtherCastle those are very impressive times/scores. I had a hard time getting anywhere on this one. Very impressed with your games. Going to have to go read how you did it.

Thanks! I choose challenger since I had a vague suspicion that the extra tech to the AI would speed up my tech progress. That could have helped Balbes as well, although the diplomatic victory results contradicts my theory.

Congrats to all of the winners.

Usual names at the top, but one famililar (to me) newcomer ... way to go LowtherCastle! :goodjob:

You seem to like silver in that trophy case of yours ... you must be learning a lot from your Scandinavian ringers in SGOTM 4  Hope BP isn't beating you all unmercifully

For me, 16th is my first top 20 finish, so I'll take it. Thanks to ainwood for accepting the crash-riddled game (solved eventually with a new computer purchase). I followed all of the crash management protocols, so I am glad to see that the game was acceptable.

Fun as always (but a little more fun when you do well ;) )

I did the same, although it didn't seem to help my tech pace very much...it might just be because I wasn't very good yet at teching quickly...I was behind the AI until just before victory.

Is it required to write a final spoiler? I can't see my score anywhere on the list. I lost interest on writing mine coz i finished a cultural victory too late disappointed of the many mistakes that I've made earlier.

(mumbling to myself) Once again! I am sick and tired of being second!

OH, but, are you there? ....mmm... I meant, what an outstanding conquest date, Lawrence, congratulations. You let me really far behind.

I am glad to see that the second and third fastest finishes are Diplomatic. Not only that, the best Spacelaunch is only the 11th fastest one! I imaging this map didn't favour warmongers as much as others.
Also, Lexad made it.

Thanks to the admins for their efforts in gifting us such a good time. Thanks to every spoiler-writer, you make all of us better players.

Woohoo! 93rd out of 106. What a quality result. The 13 people who somehow manage to stuff this up even worse than me should take a long hard look at themselves (except Pious Pete with his low scoring cultural victory).

Thanks, Doc. Guess I shouldn't be so hard on myself for the umpteen bumbles I blithered. Especially, I shouldn't have spammed so many GMs and ended up with way too much gold. Should have made massive upgrades and gone to war right when I finished Astro.

Thanks, dV. Truth be told, it wasn't BP but G (we've taught him too well) who sawed off my leg.

And as you know, Silver goes well with a peg leg.

...

The truth is that we're learning more from LC (who is very skilled in MM) than he is learning from us. If that is due to stubborness or superior knowledge I leave up to each reader to decide upon

Good for you, good for you... ;)

my stubborness if anything
...in not having the guts to go to war early enough.

I suspect it's one of 2 things: 1) I need to team up with the likes of Obormot and Lexad or 2) I need to drink more vodka earlier in the game. I suppose both solutions boil down to the same thing...

I totally sympathize with you there (this game is the 3rd time this year I've had a 2nd fastest finish, well, equal 2nd fastest this time). (I'm not complaining though this time, I'd thought I'd totally screwed up this game and was expecting to be way down the results list, so these results came as quite a pleasant surprise).

I suspect what it was is that, unusually for archipelago maps, this one had big enough clumps of land that you could build a fair few high-commerce cities near-surrounded by cottages. Usually archipelago hurts warmongers (by making it slower to conquest) and simultaneously hurts long-term science (because cities have so many low-commerce sea tiles), but that didn't happen this time. I agree it was really nice to see notionally non-military victory types doing well (though I haven't looked at the save files to see if those victories did involve lots of wars, I suspect from the high scores that they did)

TDK's 1520AD diplomatic victory looks like an equally impressive date to me, congrats to him.

Good point, I hadn't looked at the full results ranked by finish date yet. I was pleasantly surprised to see 5 out of 7 fastest overall finishes being diplomatic victories - mine included as #3 diplo and #5 overall, though ages later than tdk's and uberfish's.

Couldn't agree more! :goodjob:

Thanks. I think that it is primarily about the initial strategy. I learned from my practice games that this game can possibly be conquered with galleys (low water level makes it) so I chose my strategies toward that path. Like I have said, MC slingshot and attack Egypt as early as possible (I was really scared of her tech pace since she has 3 gold in her empire!). I never met a longbowman in the conquest, which compensated my deficiency in commanding a large army.

For your relief perhaps:D , I have really screwed it up in GOTM 18 and now in no position to finish it in time. My Eptathlon attempt is now: One step closer ;) and took another hit:( .

Congrats to Lexad! You made it!:king:

We could run a parallel competition here:lol: , I have 4 second fastest this year, 3 of them in the last 5 games. I have failed the fastest conquest twice in a row now.
