GOTM 18 First Spoiler

1.5h for the T50 diagram (searching for the best design), then perhaps 15 minutes each?

Thank you for your kind comments. I've been thinking of different ways to make spoilers more informative and more fun to read.

Yes, I agree, the pictures are cool, it makes it possible to actually see what’s happening. Did you record it as you went? That must have taken some time. I normally play the game, then look back at the gaim ant try to remember exactly what mofes I made. I guess it takes some dedication to always remember to record everything.

I did not have the luxury of a 4th citizen in Beshbalik who could work the second clams tile. At size 3, one citizen is producing food, and two are mining gold, and the city is stagnant. I had to be working both mines constantly to reach Code of Laws in time.

I put the citizens onto the clams straight away, yes I missed out in the gold for a few turns, but grew the city on the clams in a couple of turns, then could work the gold while growing on 2 clams.

I think fresh water is pretty much irrelevant, unless your health situation is really bad like 3 or 4 health cap. Your cities are only going to reach size 10+ if you're aiming for Spaceship victory, and you'll have the various health improving buildings then; otherwise, never.

Actually I was constantly running into health problems in the capitol, having 20+ size later in the game. HR help the happieness. It was a real research powerhouse with beaurocracy, academy etc, getting 300+ research fairly quickly.

Because I'd built the Stonehenge early, Beshbalik would've generated a 100% GP as my first Great Person if I did anything other than I actually did. I hired 2 scientists in Ning-hsia, which also had the +2 Prophet points from the Oracle, and generated the 100-point Great Person there. I actually had about 70% chance of a GS. But a GP isn't too bad either; his Shrine's contribution to your research can be compared to the Academy's, if still slightly weaker. Especially so in a Diplo game where you're actively converting the world.

I think the difference is that you built the oricle in Ning-hsia (my city names are different as I settled in a different order). I built my oricle in the copper town that never produced a great person, so keeping the great person town (in SW) bloodline pure. With representation and 6 scientists, I produced all my great people from the great person farm in the SW. although later in the game I had to employ some merchaints, as you can only have 6 scientists, and I had food for more specialists.

washington had decided to place chicargo next to the iron deposit. for a while i thought i would have to trade for iron, but the oricle, library and monastry in beshablick(copper) luckily provided the required culture to push the boarder over the iron, giving me the iron that washington had just mined.

as a result i had to put tabriz furthur east, picking up both ivory, fish, and cows, giving a nice science city.

The land was hammer-poor, I didn't have a real production city. And Washington was far away. On Normal speed, this means a lot of time spent just moving troops around, and your military gains won't have time to pay off before the end of the game.

Beshabalik (copper town) became turned out to be a good hammer producer (later heroic epic etc), with 27 hammers/turn at 500AD. Karakorum was also producing 23 hammers, (more later when beurocracy came). Chicargo was only defended by two longbowmen, horse archer, axemen and spearmen. And I already had a nice collection of cat’s at 500AD, and only had 4 turns to wait for macemen production to start. So I decided to make that move on Washington. Goodbye longbows! I had very little resistance.

I suppose it’s ok to post images now the game is over.

Thanks. Evidently a lot more effort went into the record-keeping as well.
Getting a bit off-topic: What tool were you using? I like the text with the small surround of another colour. Don't think I could produce that in my pic editor without lots of effort.
As I said, I really like this format for explaining your game. However, I think I'll have to improve my play before I try anything like it. At the moment it would be like using the best bone china and cutlery for serving up fish&chips.

yes, i think it would be very informatibe if more people would go to the effort of mosting pictures of the game (naturally after submission is closed). i find the discussion of different stratergies a great way to learn, by understanding and comparing different techniques that you might not have origionally considered, or had opportunities to try out.
